16 month old wakes more than a newborn!

Help! We nightweaned my DS about a month ago hoping it would improve his sleep because I was a complete zombie for him and my 4 year old during the day. He woke SO many times a night that I could barely keep up. Plus, DH and I couldn't even make it through a movie in the evening without him waking up several times! And probably once a week he'd wake up at 3:00 or 4:00am and just be up for hours before going back to sleep.

Fast forward a month, nightweaning went oddly smooth, and he'd just wake up at 5:30 to nurse. HOWEVER. He STILL wakes up every two hours and sometimes more!! And when he wakes up to nurse at 5:30 he's up for good! Dh and I can't take it anymore! Why's he doing this?

I tried only doing one nap but that doesn't work anymore. I can't keep him up during the day because he's so tired by 9:30 from waking up at 5:30! I've tried feeding him more, nursing him more, less clothes, more clothes... I'm running out of ideas!

I don't have any solutions, sorry. But, sympathy in droves!
Our 15 month old is similar.
He's getting molars now, so that was my first thought when I read your post. Have you tried any teething remedy for him? We use homeopathics and have recently gotten an amber necklace that seems to help some.
Maybe it's just developmental? There's a lot going on around this point. Other mamas assure met that it gets easier, so I hope they're right!
Hang in there, good luck!

I think right around 16 months was the WORST for us and it has been bad all along. I agree with PP that it could be teeth. I think I am discovering that some babies are just super sensitive to teething pain. My son in 19 months old now and I barely want to type this because I am afraid of cursing myself, but for about 2 weeks now we have had a majority of full nights of sleep. This from a child that woke sometimes hourly for months at a time. It happened to correspond with his last tooth coming in. So I am not sure about your LO, but I tell you this to give you hope and to empathize!

I'm with you!!

My 18 month old wakes often, but the past three weeks, he has given up his second nap and then treating bedtime as a nap. So he'll go to sleep around 9 pm and wake up at midnight or 1 or 2 and be up for 3 hours!!! Last night, dh got up w/ him from 12am to 2:30am. This cannot go on! He's happy and plays well but we are not well.

Sounds familiar. Have you read my thread entitled "I'm beginning to think our case is hopeless"? We haven't nightweaned yet - I just don't see how to make it go smoothly for us - but there are a bunch of other good ideas that mamas posted in that thread. Hugs to you!
