almond intolerance questions..

so ds2 has a persistent rash on his bum that i posted about <a href="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/showthread.php?t=1217198&highlight=">here </a> and <a href="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/showthread.php?t=1216504&highlight=">here </a> that we asked the ped about yesterday (fri). she said it looked like a regular reaction to the acidity of breastmilk poo and gave us a script for butt paste that SO just picked up for little sir today. i'm sticking to soy elimination just to confirm it's not an allergy type rash since i'm already 3 1/2 days in and soy takes so long.

BUT today i had almond milk on my cereal around 8 or so and then around 10:30 ds2 threw up a ton of milk (def not spit up amount although he seemed ok about it). he was fussy on the breast shortly after breakfast too but he burps a lot and i'm terrible at burping him so i don't know if those things are connected. two days ago i had almond butter toast for lunch and a few hours later the same thing with the throwing up. i didn't really think it was related to almonds until it happened again today.

obviously i'm going to cut out almonds now but i have a few questions:

*how long does it take for almonds to get out of my system/breast milk?

*should i avoid all other nuts and nut products or just some (which ones?) or just almonds?

ds1 had kind of a similar thing with maybe peanuts (but perhaps it was almonds.. it was this granola i was eating and there could have been almonds in it too but that was 3 yrs ago and i don't know. i eliminated peanuts but nothing else until ds1 was about a year and now he eats all kinds of nut products with no issue).

thanks so much all.
xoxo

Because it's almonds, and vomiting can be an allergy or intolerance symptom, I'd probably get him allergy tested to make sure it's not an IgE allergy (since nuts can escalate).

It's different for everyone, but for me, it took 4 days to get offending foods out of my milk.

I think the time milk clears really varies from person to person.

Nut allergies are scary/potentially deadly and can get worse. He's so young he can't tell you if his mouth is itchy, throat is swelling, etc. I'd avoid nuts and peanuts given what you described and get an epi pen if you can. You should probably test the baby too (tree nuts and peanuts) but you can get false negatives at that age. I'd take this seriously. My son is nut anaphylactic.

I wouldn't actually assume almonds if there was anything else in the almond milk (like soy). But like the other posts, be cautious.

thanks all! rash is almost gone, either with script butt paste or days 4-6 of no soy and no more nuts. no vomiting either. going to give the rash a day or two to completely heal before i test with any soy and just going to avoid nuts for now. am not 100% it was the almonds and not the position that caused the vomiting but it's not very hard for me to cut out nuts just in case for the time being. may test them again in a few months.
