Just had our first swim class...

... at our local YMCA. It was wonderful!

We started out with the "Splash and Play" class for 6 months to 36 months. It was just a wonderful experience. Very gentle, easy, and fun for the babes. No harsh methods, no unneeded dunking, just simple easy fun.

I can't recommend it enough!

Sounds like lots of fun! I hope to take my DD to a swim class when she gets a bit older (11 weeks now).

Are there any concerns about babies and chlorine water?

Sooo, I saw our local community center had these and it said "Must be wearing swim diapers with plastic pants over them. No Cloth Diapers!" I really dont want to buy weird plastic swim diapers for this, and I have seen the CUTEST cloth swim diapers.
Seriously, look at these www.bummis.com/us/en/swimmi.php?adr=2

Should I just get the cloth swim diapers and keep my mouth shut, or go in and show them what I have. ANyone else run into this?

I just used the disposable swim diapers. But you could always ask them about those cloth diapers. The worst they could say is no.

imo i'd just do the diaper you want. our swim class allowed cloth with cover so itr's not like it's unheard of. plus, there's no magic to disposables, they are just there to hold a poop in and not shred in thw water like normal disposables. it's not like they magically soak up urine.

but then again, i am the mother who lied about my babes age to get in the class (she was 5 mo and ready) so take the advice with a grain of salt.

I'm also curious how baby classes deal withc chlorine in the water. I'm very sensitive and can't use public pools because of it.

Great! Thanks for the review. I just saw these classes and wondering if it was a good idea. I think I'm going to buy a cloth swim diaper and just keep my mouth shut. Sometimes it's not worth calling attention by even asking. Any recommendations other than the bummis?

We also did a parent/baby swim class (my son is 9 months old) and really enjoyed it. We used a cloth swim diaper (but my MIL made it, so I can't offer any brand recommendations).

I don't know if all Y's use the same class structure but we love the baby swim class at our Y, too.

Regarding diapers, I'd just use the cloth swim diapers myself. Who's going to look, really?
