How much does your CSA cost this year?

We have several CSA's in our area, one is even delivering with our dairy. They all seem to be much higher priced than previous years, so I'm just wondering what most of you are paying. The family share for 4-5 people is $920 for the one that delivers to our door.

I'm in NYC. Our CSA has a sliding-scale price range and did not raise its prices this year. Delivery is for 22 weeks.

The share price depends upon household income. There are four levels. Family shares (4-6 people) cost:
above $100,000 a year - Upper Income - $800
$50,000 - $100,000 a year - Middle - $650
below $50,000 a year - Lower - $450
hungry or at risk of hunger - Food Insecure- $50

Fruit costs extra. That's just for vegetables. Vegetables are organic, but the fruit is not (though the fruit is local). Individual veg shares (1-3 people) are $25-400. This year we're getting an individual veg share and a fruit share.

However, it does not deliver to our door. We pick the share up each Sunday afternoon.

Ours has gone up every year we've been in (this is our 4th)--this year is $475. Our shares are probably smaller than yours, I think they say it will feed 2 people a week. There are several drop-off spots around the area; I drive about 6 miles to pick mine up (but it's on the way to the grocery store, so I make it one trip).

I've not really looked into the other (newer) CSA's in our area, even though they may be cheaper, since we've liked the one we've been with from the start.

I'm in Northern Colorado and the smallest share through this CSA is a single share for $592. I have not checked the other CSA's and this is one of the largest in the area. Last year, I swear that I saw CSA's were around $475. The $920 just seems super pricey to me.

Guess it's time to start my own garden, but we are probably moving this year and I don't know how to take it with me.

In Philadelphia $650 for the spring/summer full share

we are with you and also with the dairy . I think it did go up; I was going to do it this year but frankly, not at that price.

Without knowing how many weeks your CSA share runs, it's hard to compare.

Mine runs year-round, and a mixed share (veg/fruit) is $31.50/box (week). During the summer months, we get 2 shares (1 veg, 1 fruit) so that I can can/dry/freeze the extra. We do not have the option to add eggs or milk to ours - I can get both of those + local cheese and cultured butter at the farmer's market.

Ours is $1100, it feeds 2 vegetarian adults who are centering their diets around the CSA. If we were talking just side dishes for dinner and such it would probably feed a lot more.

It's 44 weeks, probably way longer than for most of you.

Oh, and it's all organic. And includes eggs but not dairy.

Ours is $650 for the family size, organic, May-Nov. They also have full year shares that are $1100.

$200 for June through October, in Utah.

Around here I've seen full shares going from $500-$900 for the spring/summer season.

In Toronto. A 22 week share at a local organic farm that also donates produce to organizations that cater to low income families and provides food education and community kitchens etc.
The reg share is $608 ($26 per week) and the share for large families is $820.
It is not delivered, we have to pick it up.
Also, your share gives you points, and then you go to the pick-up and shop with your points. So you are not stuck with something you dont want to too little of something you love.

We haven't participated yet, but I'm seriously considering it. Although it would save money in the long run, it is hard to come up with all that money at one time.

Interesting to see how much the costs vary.

I'm in the greater Boston area, CSA is 22 weeks (June-Oct), all veggies and some limited fruit (strawberries & melons), plus pick your own herbs, flowers and some labor-intensive picking veggies (peas, beans, cherry tomatoes) pick-up at farm, all organic (though they don't pay to become certified organic).

It is $650 for a full brown paper grocery bag size share (shareholders get to choose what they want for the most part, though sometimes there are limits on certain items), plus some larger items sometimes outside of the bag (pumpkins, melons, corn).

Sorry, I didn't even think to include the weeks! Our CSA runs 26 weeks. Here's a link...http://www.morningfreshdairy.com/CSA-Grant-Farms.html. I just checked the price if we pick up, instead of delivery and the family share (exact same share) is $754. That seems a bit more reasonable.http://grantfarms.com/summary.php?go...s#e163613153e6

My every other week share that runs from June to October is $365.

The Shire CSA (try googling it) is a lot less than 592, I think around the 450 range for a single share which I heard is more than enough for 2 people and a child, I think we are going with them in addition to our own garden.

I'm paying $644 for 22 weeks - June thru October at The Root Connection -- Seattle area.

They have an all-you-can pick herb garden, flower garden and a lovely children's picking garden -- in addition to the pesticide-free veggie share you get.

I love, love, love it!

Wow! I can't believe I've never heard of them, even when I've googled CSA Fort Collins! They are literally across the street from where I live. It would take me 2 minutes to bike there.

Thanks for sharing!!
