I will watch..................but I have a feeling how it is going to end. Those tht dont vaccinate are putting their kids (and others) at risk.

Especially seeing how PBS is getting funding from industries now. Sad.

Gee, I am sure this will be a balanced report:

And some advocacy groups, like Generation Rescue, argue that vaccines are no longer a public health miracle but a scourge
Is that why Generation Rescue has alternative vaccination schedules on their web-site?

thanks for posting.

ALmost too nervous to watch it.

Jay Gordon's tweet today said not to watch it. And that he was interviewed, but no footage was used.

I take it to mean it will be frustrating at best and more likely infuriating at worst? I'm nine months pg; I don't need that kind of aggravation right now. I think I'll watch something else tonight.

even if it is biased, i plan to watch it, it is good to know all sides of an issue. Too bad things like risks of disease vs risks of the vaccine are put on a one page sheet for parents to read after their children have received the shot. That's about all the info most parents get in the mainstream. Although I doubt many mainstream parents watch frontline, but maybe some relatives/grandparents might..

It is true that doctors can be wrong, that scientists change their mind in light of new facts, and that some of us accept as "good science" only conclusions that support what we already believe. Yet lacking answers, there will always be questions. Says Jenny McCarthy, who has an autistic son (and is unfairly described here as a "former Playboy playmate" when "actress" is more current and apt), "We don't know for sure, which is why we keep saying, ‘Study it.' " Put that way, of course, it doesn't sound unreasonable.

I have removed a few posts from this thread & would like to ask as we proceed that everyone remember:
Quote:
Do not post to invite MDC members to other communities, blogs or message boards for adversarial purposes or link to discussion about MDC at another site. Do not negatively discuss other communities or discussions elsewhere (this includes blog comments), regardless of whether or not you link to that discussion or community. This is to maintain and respect the integrity of our own and other communities.
Please also remember to focus on the general vax related topics rather than specific individuals. In particular:
Quote:
Do not post in a disrespectful, defamatory, adversarial, baiting, harassing, offensive, insultingly sarcastic or otherwise improper manner, toward a member or other individual, including casting of suspicion upon a person, invasion of privacy, humiliation, demeaning criticism, name-calling, personal attack or in any way which violates the law.

I took issue with one portion of this article:

Quote:
There are voices from both sides of what some would resist even calling a debate; it is an asymmetrical conversation. On one side, you have doctors, epidemiologists, pharmacologists and social scientists, whose fairly unanimous rejection of a link between vaccination and autism — or at least between the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) triple shot and the mercury-based preservative thimerosal — also offers no reassuringly specific alternative. On the other you have, basically, parents — writers and activists, organizers and celebrities among them — who speak with the authority of individual experience.
A) There are plenty of scientific arguments wielded by vaccine skeptics (just START on MDC), and they deserve a scientific response. It is hardly fair to dichotomize the issue as "emotional parents" v. "real scientists who are right."

B) There are plenty of physicians and health care professionals who question the current CDC schedule.

And finally...

C) Since when were social scientists (bolded above)among those with any authority on medical matters?

ETA:

D) Autism? Really? Could we give that red herring up already?

Yeah that...and why are they only connecting the autism thing with MMR...what about all the vaccines that had thimerisol in them?

Watching...mad.

I just finished watching this online. I actually thought it was going to be well-balanced. I was wrong.

I feel like it made all of us who choose not to vaccinate our children look as though we were all "educated" courtesy of youtube. And the message was loud and clear... trust the FDA and big pharma blindly. They know what's best for us. It was sooooo infuriating!!!

Grrrr.

Much of the show was good, just not good enough. I do think someone outside our board would have seen that and paused.

I just wish there had been more investigation on the party line on arguments of references of specific studies that Offit and others stated that the show put forth as fact.

Well my husband is a social scientist...history of medicine. He actually studies the social impact of vaccines (specifically smallpox actually). He can speak with some authority about vaccines from a cultural standpoint.

And no, our son is not vaccinated.

I"m so glad there was a thread started on this topic already. I just finished watching this online as my dh reminded me to earlier in the day along with 3 Facebook "natural-minded, holistic" groups. So what did I do I posted it on my Wall hoping that all my pro-vax PhD relatives would watch and realize that I'm not some idiot who believes everything I see on the internet. Well, guess what, I quickly ERASED my Wall post about 45 minutes through the online viewing

IMO, they made it seem like those that don't vax really are the "uneducated" misinformed parents that just don't have a clue. I am so upset I'm shaking as I type this because omg I researched for three years before I became comfortable with my decision. I did use factual information such as CDC records. I did look at both sides, I do have a college degree and an advanced degree...I have to stop I'm so upset at this whole thing sorry for the massive rant, but does anyone else feel like I do about this presentation?

Ok, I posted this and had a chance to go back and read everyone's posts. I'm so glad I'm not the only one that thought this was clearly one-sided - while simultaneously trying to give the appearance of a balanced program

ok, just watched it.

BIg question (that was left unanswered) if Ashland Oregon has 28% unvaccinated, WHY NOT DO A STUDY THERE?? THey keep saying it is too hard to find a large enough population to do a study.

Ok, also, was the Redskins cheerleader a hoax?? They insinuated it was, but there was no definitive. Just curious if some of you know. Thanks
