frequent night waking-trying to figure it out

My DS has never been a great sleeper, day or night. I feel like we had just progressed to consistently getting 3-4 hour stretches at night when he started teething. He did amazingly well with the teething, except that all of a sudden he is waking every 2 hours like clockwork again. His teeth popped through within a few days and he doesn't appear to be in any pain, but he is still waking frequently.

We cosleep in a queen size bed with not a ton of room, and I'm wondering if, now that he is rolling over, he just doesn't have enough room, or is it still related to the teething? I'm also wondering if he just has a hard time rolling over on the bed because it dips down toward me and my DH. He has a hard time resettling himself, especially when I have to help him roll over, but he will go right back to sleep while nursing. Now I understand what people mean by all night nurse-a thons! Any suggestions or similar experiences?

I'm in the same boat, and unfortunately I don't have any suggestions. My 5.5 month old DS wakes every 45 minutes, though. He starts the night in his crib then we bring him into our queen bed sometime after we go to bed. He doesn't sleep better either place. His naps (in his crib or an ergo carrier) are 45 minutes too. This is after a period where he slept 3 hours in a row and 2 hour naps, so it's very frustrating, I know. I'm guessing that your bed is not the problem, but he just wakes up at the end of each sleep cycle and cannot get back to sleep without help. It's good that your LO can go back to sleep nursing. Sometimes mine does, but sometimes he just gets more upset, and lately if he does fall asleep, he won't stay asleep if I unlatch him.

I'm in the exact same situation. 30-45 minute naps, waking every hour or so at night. What fun!

waking every 2-4 hours at 7 months is pretty normal.. at that age my DS was waking every hour.. in fact he woke every hour or more his entire first year. it will get better mama! Some babies are just wired to wake frequently. I would rule out any medical reasons (reflux, food alleriges, etc) and then just try to accept this is how it will be for awhile and do what you can to maximize the sleep you are getting.

It helps to hear that waking so frequently is normal. I do consider myself lucky that at least he goes right back to sleep, while nursing. But will he ever be able to resettle himself? I have always had difficulty with sleep myself, so I won't be surprised if my ds is the same. I really, really hoped that he would have my dh's sleeping habits-out like a light for the whole night, even through multiple baby awakenings!

I have the same issue with my 10 mo old. She wakes prob 5-8 times a night to nurse (we cosleep) and I'm so exhausted. She starts out in the packnplay in my room at 7pm, but wakes about 10pm when we go to bed...then the nurse-wake-athon begins until about 6am...she either wakes for the day or finally crashes hard.
