I have to thank this forum

Somewhere on here I read about letting things go even if you paid alot of money

Just the other day we got a free piano- only it was not free we had to pay to move it here.

My dh had checked it out and it seemed good, needed a tuning

Well, when I sat at it, the insides were sooooo dusty or moldy or something that my nose and throat started burning- didn't bother dh though.

But because of things I read here, I decided to let the piano go even though I *just* paid all that money to move it here!

I figured it wasn't right, I wasn't willing to invest money in it and chance that they couldn't get rid of whatever it was that was bothering my respiration

So I gave it away yesterday, I owned it for 24 hours and it cost me a couple of hundred dollars

Sadly, it might never have even occurred to me that I could do this- make a blunder, admit it was wrong for me and let it go if it weren't for this forum

Thanks

PS I could have sold it for what I paid to have it moved here, but I wanted to get rid of it before I talked myself out of it for one; plus they are going to have to invest to get it cleaned out if they are sensitive to it like I was~ they might not be, it didn't bother my husband at all, he thought/thinks I'm crazy lol

Why didn't you call me?? I've been wanting a piano....

Seriously, I'm glad it worked for you and you were able to let go.

awesome!

we are considering the same thing for the table we bought, then broke about a week in. we can fix it, or move it along. i'm leaning more and more toward moving it along.

I have been dealing with this same thing as we have been given a lot/purchased used a lot of stuff in the almost 4 yrs since we bought our house. I have spent all winter going threw all of our stuff and one thing is a electronic piano we were given. We have never really used it much, and it is HEAVY! So that is going at our garage sale.

It is hard to let stuff go, but good for you!!

Learning that lesson was the most valuable thing I've taken away from this forum too! It's the thing that let me break the final attachments to things that I don't really want/need/use. When I have something like what you described--fixable if someone is willing to put in some effort, but I don't have the skill/desire to do it--I usually freecycle it with clear explanations about the TLC required. And I've always had an immediate, grateful taker.

It makes me feel good that the item is going somewhere it will be valued and used.

My other big lesson here - which should have been obvious!! - was to address clutter hot spots. Dirty laundry piling up = need a hamper. Garbage tends to accumulate = needs a garbage can. That kind of thing. I'm still working on my other hot-spots! But one little thing at a time, and things get better. As I fix one spot, I move to the next.
