Chunk Thighs (dipe is too tight!)

Does anyone else have a babe with really fat thighs? Our bumgenius diapers have always been snug, but now at 6 months we have them opened to the biggest setting. But, when I take off her diaper, she has these awful red marks where the leg gussets weres SO tight.

What does one do?

Also, I have to make the diaper nice and snug around her waist in order to prevent leaks (especially when she sleeps on her belly) but I think it deters her from sitting up because the diaper cuts into her little buddha belly. A couple weeks ago I took a cloth break and she was very comfortable and almost mobile in the disposable diapers. I really hate it, but I think she's a little uncomfortable in the cloth diapers now and that makes me sad. She doesn't seem to move around as much when she's wearing them.

Does anyone have any suggestions about how I can make them more comfortable for her?

i love using motherease airflow covers as you can adjust at both the waist and legs.
my dd is trim overall, but carries what chub she has on her thighs and ME covers work great.

I would recommend looking into side-snapping diapers (like Green Acre Designs). The front snaps/velcro and high waist of BG's and some other dipes can be uncomfortable on mobile babies. GADs are also great on chunky thighed babies (like my DS--he is only 2 months but his thighs are mediums while the rest of him fits into smalls on most diapers).

it may just be that the bg aren't a good fit. would you be willing to try something else? you could get a few different types of pockets, find something you like, then sell of anything that doesn't work for you and buy more of that.

We had the same issue with BG diapers... we switched to prefolds and covers and haven't had an issue since.

Side snaps are your friend. My little guy has chubby thighs and a skinny tummy, and I can get the perfect fit on just about any dipe with side snapping.

I also really like low-rise dipes for mobility reasons. Both Little Beetle and Swaddlebees still fit him on the size small at the smallest setting (at 7 mos), but the rise is so short that it doesn't come up over his belly at all.

Dream-Eze has a higher rise, but doesn't seem to limit his mobility at all - he's starting to crawl, and DE make up the bulk of our stash.

This made me smile and remember my boys at that age (they are now 2 y and 3 y 8m). Both of my boys were about 26 lbs at 6 months...yep, that's big We have CD'd both since birth with MotherEase and have LOVED them... The dipes fit from birth (granted both were "big" even at birth 11.5 lbs; 9 lbs) to current. My older son is just now starting to outgrow them (he's 40 lbs), but he only wears them at night (a whole different story!).
In fact, my boys were so chubby at 6 months that the dipes were snapped on a "looser" snap than once they became mobile and lost the chubbiness.
So, yes, I can relate!! And, really the only thing I could think is to maybe, as pp have said, try some multi snap dipes and covers that you'll be able to adjust (bigger for now...then smaller again as she loses some of the chubbiness!).

Good luck!!!

My litle guy is 6 months and he has these ridiculously chunky thighs - so adorable and rolly polly
All his diapers are not fitting well right now. The best fit right now is the one-size Happy Heineys and AppleCheeks. His BG's, AMPs, Gro Baby and FuzziBunz are all a terrible fit and leave awful red marks on his legs. You might want to consider trying a few new diapers. I know with my first babe my favourite diapers changed as he grew and fit things differently.

We had a 4 day break from cloth when we were out of town and it was surprising how much more mobile he was. But as soon as we got home and put him back in cloth he was able to do all the same movements etc he was doing while away.

My girls had really chunky thighs too, especially dd2. During the infant stage my favorite diapers for her were prefolds, snappi-fastened, with simple nylon pull-on covers. My favorite are Dappi but Bummis are alright too. They are sooo inexpensive and they work very well. They have soft lycra binding around the legs and waist and never leave red marks. I'm still using this style cover for my 2yo because they just seem so comfy. I have other styles and brands, but Dappis are great. Give them a try, and if they don't work for you, at least you're not out a bunch of money, because they are about $5-6 for a 2-pack.

Ugh, sounds like spending money is the only way out. All of our BG's were gifted to us and we just don't have the moula to spend on diapers right now. She has historically LOVED having her diaper changed and always sings, shrieks and giggles throughout the process but she's just recently started crying during changes. And no, she doesn't have a rash.

I agree - they don't fit right. I'd try FuzziBunz OS b/c you can adjust the leg and waist size independently, which makes for a great fit.
