Cradle Swings

Yesterday we got our little 'high needs' daughter a unique cradle swing:

and came home so excited that we had a last resort soother.

She hates it.

Can anyone recommend a good cradle swing for a fussy baby? We think the problem with this one is that it swings in a curve, not a straight forward/backward or side to side motion.

We have a Nature's Touch cradle swing. It was loaned to us from a friend. It's working fine. I only put him in it once a day in the early part of the morning after we get up. He is mostly just fussy in the evenings though. Last night was exceptionally bad. I haven't tried the swing when he was most fussy because he freaks if I put him down.

I'm curious where this thread goes because Ruben is totally not into the swing either unless he is already really happy (in which case he'll tolerate it for 15-20 minutes tops) or fast asleep.

It definitely doesn't function to soothe him either.

My niece LOVED hers. It would calm her right down.

I just bought a swing today. She hates it so far. Don't know why I thought it might work - desperation, I guess. I should've known better, given how much DD1 hated her borrowed swing. October, if you keep trying and she still doesn't like it, I'm gooing to bet it's not a problem w/the way it swings. Lots of babies hate swings.

My 1st dc loved her swing. My next one was high needs and HATED it. He was happiest on the floor hanging out because he hated being contained, he still does at 13

I just posted this in another thread.... are you swaddling her in the swing? This was *very* important in getting more than 3 minutes out of our swing (keep her legs free though so you can buckle her in). And use the fastest speed... we were using the slowest, and it was terrible. Also, try to calm her down--as much as possible with a high needs baby!--before putting her in.

We got this same exact swing for our LO! Hopefully she'll like it!! My first two only used/liked a swing between 3-6 mos. so we'll see.
I know what you mean about it kinda swinging at an angle too when set in the forward/backward motion. Hope this won't bother our babe :/

Try swaddling, yes!! Hehe. Evelyn hates the swing if she's not swaddled or at least wrapped fairly tight around the legs and body. She goes right to sleep in it. We have the Fisher Price Rainforest swing that goes forward/back and side to side.

indeed we discovered the swaddle trick too!! And, putting the icing on top, it knocks her right out if we turn on the white noise full blast. I love the one we got to replace the first one -- it goes forward to backward in a straight line. Phew!

I got a swing today and swaddled him in it and he loves it! YAY for swings and glad to know you have to swaddle them in it. He is in it so happily right now he is practically cooing

yes! October I am so glad your baby likes the swing also as soon as she got swaddled in it.
It is such a relief already- last night dh and I actually got to hang out together some rather than taking shifts trying to get Teo to rest and soothe! And this morning I can actually do something other than carry him around hoping he will sleep (especially cause my back is out right now )

Here is a photo of him a few minutes ago in the swing on his way to sleep! Right now the eyelids are drooping and he is chilling. This pic was a few minutes ago
