leaving toddler nursing twins for 4 nights!!! advice??

Wondering if anyone has any sage advice about my situation. Next week, I will be going on a trip away from my family for 4 nights. I have never spent this amount of time away, so I am a bit nervous. Mainly I am looking for any advice about prepping my 2 "babies" who are still nursing like champs!

Here are the logistics:
They nurse to bed and for naps and during the day.
They are in bed with us.
My husband will be with them while I am gone.
They fall asleep for car rides.

My fertility has not come back yet, so I imagine that will return after this time apart. I will be bringing a pump (obviously!!! ). Wondering if my little guys will still nurse when I get back (husband's vote is YES!)?

Anyone who has done this have any thoughts on how to prepare the babies and me?

Pardon my disjointed thoughts. Thanks!!!!

I think they will still nurse fine, when you get home.

I have been gone from my littles 1-2 nights at a time and been fine. They were a bit cranky that Mom wan't there, but dh was able to get them to sleep by just hangin' out with a movie or taking a car ride for a nap.

I wouldn't make too much of a fuss about it because they might get worried. I would just talk about Mamma going to be gone (perhaps "at work" or "at a meeting" something they understand) for a few days and Daddy will be there to take care of them. I would tell them the day before you leave, perhaps while nursing to sleep. "Tomorrow, I won't be here to nurse you at bedtime, instead you will get to have Daddy put you to bed. What would you like to do at bedtime? Perhaps have popcorn for bedtime snack? " etc.

Good luck Mamma! And ENJOY your time off!

Subbing on this! I am leaving my similarly aged nurslings next month for five days for a CRUISE IN THE BAHAMAS WITH MY BEST FRIEND. Sorry. Couldn't help but shout there. Mine are not nursing nearly as often though (about once a day) and I'm kinda hoping they might wean while I'm gone.

I don't have any advice other than to say I think they will be fine with your dh and will probably continue to nurse when you get back. I left today to take my older dd to a birthday party and dh was able to lie down with both ds and dd and they fell right asleep. If I was at home dd would scream and cry for me. So, I think they just know when you're not there and will accept that other comfort. I think cdahlgrd has some good ideas.

We are hoping to get away for a night or two this September for our 10 year anniversary (if we can find someone willing to watch 4 kids) but am kind of nervous about it. Excited too though

I just did. I left for 6 days and they asked to nurse w/in 10 minutes of me walking in the door. I took a pump with me and didn't need it.

Thanks everyone for your help and good ideas. The support on this board is priceless!!

MamaRabbit - YOU DIDN"T NEED A PUMP?!?! Sorry, I needed CAPS for that one. I cannot imagine. This should be interesting....

I took a pump and breast pads and didn't need them. On day 2, it was a little tingly when I thought about it. Day 4 at night felt a little achy/lumpy, but couldn't express anything in the shower after warm water/massage. Next day leaked just ONE drop out of each side. When I got home, I know my supply was very low because nursing gave me that "creepy crawly dry nursing" feel. 2 days later, back to normal. My girls are 5 months older than yours and normally nurse 3 to 4 times a day, so not sure if that's as much as you're doing, which could make a big difference.

I'm already practically dry nursing so you think I can skip a pump Mamarabbit? It's been so long I'm not sure the parts are all there and I do NOT want to buy a new one!

Wow, Intertwined, you've got us all so jealous!

Don't bring a lump. Just express in the shower if you're full.

And my favorite of course, the electric toothbrush trick!

For plugged ducts, of course.

Gena, I love you. I won't bring any lumps, I hope.

If your supply is already low, I wouldn't worry about a pump for your lumps I figured hand-expressing would work if I was desperate, but couldn't get anything out even that way.

That's totally what I was thinking. I'm just SO excited. Sorry to steal from the OP but I'm about to burst with the thought of five WHOLE days to myself with none of my six children. I'm sure the irony will be that I miss them.
