Something with Rottweiler definably. A part of me wants to say Akita?

are you all saying rottie just because of the markings? or some other reason?

cuz lots of other breeds have those markings. i've had at least 3 non rottie mixes that had the black and tan markings!

I have no idea, but had to say he is super cute!

I'd say rottie as well- it's not the markings, it's the shape of his head.

I vote either Rottie or GSD. He looks alot like one of mine when she was a pup - droopy ears and all. She's a GSD mix.

We have a dobie mix, and her nose is quite a bit longer than that.

Now that I think of it we had a rescued foster pup for awhile that looked just like this dog a few years back!! She was a GSD/Husky mix if I remember correctly, I will have to ask dh, he will remember better then me.

this is apparently a rott/husky/german shepherd mix.. looks pretty similar!
mama2tomany- you don't happen to have a pic of that pup, do you??

this one is a black and tan coonhound/lab.. but the ears look too big!

Yep!!

There's this one that looks a bit like yours - pic isn't the greatest - but is a gsd and dobie mix (as a pp suggested): http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/16196754

And this one that's a gsd/husky mix - her coloring's the same but I don't think she has as boxy a head as yours: http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/16215472

And these guys are gsd/labs - but their mom is a rottie/gsd - they are cute so that's why I'm including them: http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/16087560

Anyway, I'll stop. I don't need to bring home any more pups right now.

I agree with most of the others, he looks like a generic German Shepherd mix of some sort. As he grows older you might get a better idea of what went in there- or you might not. I think a lot of mutts of multi-generational mutts, not first generation crosses. So I'd guess the most likely answer is that both of his parents were shepherd mixes.

black and tan markings by the way are one of the most recessive colors, just having one black and tan marked parent wont produce them, they both have to carry the trait.

I'm betting our pet lovers will know, so I'm scooting this over there.
