After 2 very early mc's, I finally talked my ob into doing a progesterone blood test. When I called to find out when I have to do it, my regular ob had been called away on an emergency and I talked to the nurse who said they do the test on CD3. It happened to be Saturday so luckily we have labs that have Saturday hours, but after doing some research it suddenly doesn't make sense to me why the test would be on CD3 when it seems most others do the test 7 DPO. Anyone ever hear of this?

there is a variety of times they do a progesterone test and its for different reasons
Progesterone (P4) Day 3 <1.5 ng/ml
Often called the follicular phase level. An elevated level may indicate a lower pregnancy rate.
Progesterone (P4)7 dpo >15 ng/ml
A progesterone test is done to confirm ovulation. When a follicle releases its egg, it becomes what is called a corpus luteum and produces progesterone. A level over 5 probably indicates some form of ovulation, but most doctors want to see a level over 10 on a natural cycle, and a level over 15 on a medicated cycle. There is no mid-luteal level that predicts pregnancy. Some say the test may be more accurate if done first thing in the morning after fasting.
and others do a 2DPO progesterone test to confirm O as well, but this test does not give you peak readings so is useful mostly for when you have to take something or stop something after O and you dont have clear charts.
the quotes are from this website, i have used for a long time http://www.fertilityplus.org/faq/hormonelevels.html
i have cross checked all the levels that i know about with my lab and doctors and they mostly agree, where they dont its usually because one is stricter on low or high
hope this helps
