About five (six? can't really remember) weeks ago, my son (age three) had a cold - runny nose, cough, a bit of sneezing. Nothing out of the ordinary. He's fine now, except that the cough hasn't gone away yet. I figured we'd just let it run its course, but I know it's been over a month now, and he's still coughing. Nothing too disturbing, but still...
Both my family and my husband's have a history of asthma. In college, I was told I have activity-induced asthma. The only time I have a problem is if I get a severe cold that I just can't beat. Then I'm on an inhaler until things settle down, and in a few weeks I'm fine and back to normal, so no more drugs.
What's worrying me is that my son's cough seems to get worse when he's running around. The last few days it's been to the point where he'll chase the dog/want me to chase him and then he has to stop to cough. He'll take a drink of water if I offer it to him, and he doesn't seem bothered by the coughing. There's no wheezing that I can tell, and he doesn't seem short of breath other than from running around.
I try to avoid going to the doctor unless really necessary. Should I schedule an appointment for him?
