Teach me! 6 week old

I'm sure there's more threads on this but DS3 is lovely and time consuming so I'm hoping it's ok to make a new thread.

I've discovered thorugh trial and error that DS3 hates to poop with his diaper on and happily has his bowel movements when his bum isn't wraped in a diaper. It's the difference in it taking 5-20 minutes diaperless, or all.day.long diapered.

So I figure ECing may be a necessity! How do you do it?

Basically when you think he needs to go, you take him!

There are key times when babies are likely to need to go, after eating and upon waking are good places to start.

Some people start by making a cuing sound when they think baby needs to potty. We said psh, like water running, quietly. With my first, we actually ran the water in the sink the first few times, but the sound seems better for the environment.

There is a position people hold baby in to help things along while cuing. You support their head and upper body with your arms and chest or belly (or just cradle the baby, if he's still tiny) and pull his legs up into a sitting/squatting position. It puts a little pressure on the belly and helps everything come out. There are many resources with pictures, youtube comes to mind. There are lots of EC videos where you can see the position.

Then it's simple, just listen to when he wants to go. Good luck

When they're teeny tiny it can be helpful to use a potty bowl. The ones you can buy online are really nice and shaped for the purpose. Or you can tape up the rim of an extra large yogurt or cottage cheese container or such.

My favorite hold until, um, at least 6 months and probably longer, was to sit backwards on the toilet to hold her over the toilet.

I hope it's clear when he has to poop!

Chck out diaperfreebaby.org and the book "The Diaper Free Baby" by Christine Gross-Loh. And then just give it a shot. First pee after waking (either in the morning or after a nap) is usually an easy one to catch. He will probably try to poo while you have him over the potty, since he already prefers not to use a diaper!
