Victory!

I successfully helped a friend avoid formula supplementation. I'm happy!!

I went to visit on day 1 in the hospital, for her 35-weeker, 5lbs 13oz, who is/was doing great. She told me they said to supplement because of his size, and I talked with her about asking for the SNS device first, pumping, etc before going to formula, AND being on a wait-and-see basis. So she asked the nurse if they HAD to supplement with formula, and the nurse said, Well, it's doctor's orders, protocol, etc. Then the nurse said she'd review the babe's chart with the charge nurse and get back to her, and yes they have the SNS devices. She came back 20 min later or so and said the instruction was for formula AS NEEDED. Well that extra detail would have been helpful . So she said he's doing great, let's hold off. Wooho! I'm glad my friend asked about it and didn't go along with "this is what you have to do". She's pumping and feeding extra, but no formula yet (4 days old).
