Ergo vs. Mei Tai for back carry?

Hi Mamas,

In the interest of getting more things done during the day (you know, laundry, dishes, the fun stuff) with my high-needs, needs to be worn all day 5 month old, I am starting to try the back carry. I can't seem to manage getting her on my back by myself in the Moby, so I have tried it in the Ergo with better success. My problem is that she is so low on my back because of where the waist belt needs to be in order to be remotely comfortable. I think she would be happier back there if she could see more. Would a Mei Tai solve this problem? How would it compare comfort-wise to the Ergo for daily use (front or back carry)?

Thanks,
Whitney

Personally, I found the Ergo a lot more comfy for back carries than either of the mei tai's I used (Babyhawk (toddlerhawk) and Ella roo). You would be able to get her positioned a bit higher with a mei tai - and it's hard to say on the comfort issue b/c everyone is different. Maybe borrow one to try first before buying?

This is a good question - I always use woven wraps because I just cant figure out a good back wrap in either my ergo or mei tai. I am giving myself a few more weeks to try before they both end up on fsot!

I prefer the Ergo for a back carry, as the MT either pulls on my shoulders or squishes my chest. And I can't get a comfortable higher back carry with the MT anyway. I'm getting a woven wrap with this next baby, which will hopefully be better for a high-back carry.

I turned my MT into an Onbuhimo and I love it way more than my Ergo for back carries. My Onbu has wide straps so its more like a wrap and it don't cut into me. I also tie it above my breast (and I am large chested) so there is not any squishing going on there.

Definitely try a MT! It's so much more adjustable than the Ergo IMO

I have both, but since I got my MT I have only gone back to the Ergo once, just to see how it compared. The MT is so much more versatile and MUCH more comfortable for me. I quit using the front carry with the Ergo when DS was 5 months old because my back hurt so much. But I am still using the front carry with the MT even though DS is now a year old! I also like how much higher DS sits in the back carry with the MT compared to the Ergo. You can check out tips and tricks for getting your DC into the back carry in the MT on youtube.

i prefer my ergo for back wearing, i tend to have the lower strap higher up than your meant to though (above my belly) as i find it comfier this way. i always found with my mt. that when caden fell asleep his head would flop about all over when he fell to sleep.
