Talk to me about lentils

I always thought that lentils was just another name for beans. Dh does not like beans, but he does like nuts. Do you think he'll like lentils if he wont eat beans? TIA

Lentils are legumes, but they are not beans. I can't say whether anyone would like them - everyone's different - but I love lentils and eat them often. We make lentil soup a lot for a quick 30-minute dinner, and I've also replaced the ground beef in some recipes with cooked lentils when I didn't feel like eating meat. I also like to stew lentils with herbs and then use them as a bed for serving salmon on top of, and in the summer we have lentil salad. They go really nicely with almost everything.

we are lentil lovers here too. ds wolfs them down every time i make them. lentil minestrone, lentils & brown rice, curried lentils with apples. he's very inconsistent with eating beans, but always likes lentils, so i end up making them a lot because they're sooo quick, easy, cheap, and most importantly healthy! i like the french ones best.

Different lentils have different textures. Red lentils tend to dissolve almost into mush. Du Puy lentils keep their shape and have more substance. There are also green and brown lentils that tend to fall somewhere in between.

I enjoy all, but du Puy lentils are my favourite.

Lentils aren't expensive, so you can buy different varieties and try out some recipes to see which ones you prefer.

I think another name for Puy lentils is French green lentils, check to see which you have available to you.

I find French green lentils to be less lentil-y in flavor, and for the first time I'm really enjoying lentils, and DH even said last night's dinner was tasty--basically a bean salad, but with lentils instead.

It's worth noting, by the way, that Esau in the Bible sold Jacob his birthright for a bowl of lentils! So yes, many men are agreed that lentils are tasty.

I like using lentils to replace ground beef. Like sloppy "sams" which are sloppy joes made with lentils. DH and the kids liked it.

I'll say that my DH is pretty indifferent to beans, but he does seem to enjoy lentils. The first few times I made them I didn't tell him, and hid them in his food. I made things like taco meat with half ground beef, half (green) lentils. He didn't even notice. And really, neither did I, and I knew they were there.
