Thank you Fyrestorm.

I have a dear friend, we'll call her A, that has come to the realization she is a victim of FGM, it's a long story and I don't want to share her details and violate her privacy (she has given me permission to look for info keeping her vague). I'll share the link to the book with her. I was hoping there might be some support groups available. She's beyond devastated about this discovery.

Here are a few

In Colorado, a surgeon helps restore feeling—and so much more—to victims of female genital mutilation.

I'm so sorry for your friend...it must be devestating. I recommend Patricia's book. I think she has some resources listed. You can also google her. She has a website. She is also on Facebook. Your friend could possibly e-mail her through FB or her website and start a conversation. It's been a while, but if I remember correctly, she was very receptive.

I am so sorry for your friend.

Patricia's book would be a valuable resource for her.

Your friend might be interested in writing to the Bioethics Committee of AAP who are NOW considering changing "FGM" to FGC (Female Genital Cutting) due to cultural sensitivity. They're actually saying some FGM (now FGC) might not be that bad!

This would open the floodgates in tolerating the removal of clitoral hood/prepuce (exact genital organ as the foreskin/male prepuce) on female babies. baaad, this is verrry bad!
