Refrigerated coconut milk?

I saw this at WF last week - I don't remember the brand name, but I've seen coconut ice cream from them before. It's in a carton like a milk carton, being sold as a milk replacement. Has anyone tried it? Thoughts?

I did compare fat content against the canned, and it's definitely been skimmed. It's not non-fat, but probably closer to whole milk than the canned stuff. I'm just wondering how it'd perform in recipes, and whether the flavor is similar to the canned stuff (which I love, but I don't love the BPA in the cans).

I have no idea, but native forest doesn't have bpa in the cans, so thats what I buy...

We haven't tried it because it's got some ingredient we can't have (maybe carageenan?) but I've heard other people like it. I like the full fat for baking/cooking.

Is it So Delicious? I haven't tried it, it seemed waayyyy overpriced (like everything else at WF!) especially for something that seems to have been diluted.

I really want to find something besides the cans I've been buying (I haven't seen Native Forest brand around here) and definitely would prefer something not canned but I just can't justify the price of that one... Anyway, subbing to see if anyone else has found good alternatives!

ETA: I have tried the So Delicious coconut ice cream, my mom bought a pint for me once, it was AWESOME. So I'd imagine it would taste good, most of their stuff is tasty, though a little more processed than I'd personally prefer.

I think it'd be far cheaper to just put a can of coconut milk (full fat) in a pitcher/blender and shake it up with some water, vanila and sweetner.

At over $3/can, that's hard to justify though. I can get coconut cream in aseptic packages, but that's a special trip to the ethnic store. I was just hoping for something a little more reasonable. And a decent milk replacement wouldn't be bad, either.

Cristeen do you have Azure Standard in your area? They have the native forest brand for 2.05/can or 21.55 for 12 (1.80 ea).

Yeah, I don't pay $3 a can either I get it through my co-op, where its like $1.9x and usually less (I try to stock up when it goes on sale...)

it is coconut milk beverage, not true coconut milk. it does have extra 'stuff' in it. we use it or almond milk in cooking and in my coffee. I like that there is an unsweetened version. it does not taste like coconut to me so it is good for making savory things like mashed potatoes and white sauce.

the brand is turtle mountain so delicious. they also make yogurt, kefir, coffee 'creamer' and ice cream. the ice cream is fantastic! I might even like it better than dairy ice cream.

coconut & almond refrigerated milks are now in my grocery stores (not just health food stores) and they have been running great coupons and specials on them-comes to less than $1.25 for a 1/2 gal. and we think they are yummy!
