What basics machine would you buy?

I'm trying to help a friend buy a basics machine. She bought a Brother bare bones variety from Wally world and ready to move up. I was going to suggest the Jenome, they have a few in the $200-$250 range.

Do you agree with my suggestion or have another I can suggest for her? She's a bit of a hobbiest but mostly uses it for a wide range of household duties. Hemming pants, repairing fallen stitches from pillow cases, etc.

Thanks,
Kris

My question to your friend would be, what features in a machine is she looking for in her next machine that she does not have now? It seems that even the most basic machine, like the Brother she has now, could handle the tasks you listed. m So I am not sure why she wants to replace it????
