Stomach Flue

My little girl just turned 2 yesterday; she has been having stomach flue type symptoms since Wednesday night. She ate some eggs and started vomiting a little while later. She had a fever that first night and diarrhea started the next day. She since has been refusing most food, she is still nursing and spent the next 4 days doing nothing but nursing and sleeping. She has since stopped vomiting and diarrhea has pretty much gone away, we are getting breastmilk loose diapers with some mucus.
The issue is that she has lost tons of weight with this illness and has lost complete interest in food. Does any one have some advice for getting her to eat more? Any advice on how to get her little digestive system back on track?

Thanks in advance,

My one year old had a problem like this around his first birthday last year. It lasted THREE WEEKS and he lost a whole pound during it.

Something my kids like when they have tummy bugs is white or brown rice cooked with chicken broth rather then water. apples with the skin, dry toast, and bananas. Probiotics will help put the good bacteria back in her gut too, (After being flushed out with the diarrhea)

So sorry. I know how hard it is to see them so weak and uncomfortable.

It does sound like she is on the mend, and like the pp mentioned it can take quite a while for the appetite to get back on track. Probiotics are definitely a good idea, and continue to offer gentle-on-the-stomach bland foods. My kids always like chicken soup when they're recovering from any kind of illness. Smoothies might appeal to her too. Just keep offering and she will take it when her body is ready to.

If she starts to become noticeably less energetic, easily fatigued, sleepy etc, or you see signs of dehydration then I would give a call to your HCP. Otherwise I think this is just one of those times when you have to let the body heal itself.
