iPad for PECS?

Thread Starter
Has anyone here read any good articles, or heard personal experiences, of using the iPad for PECS?

I know the iTouch and iPhone are regularly used for PECS programs with high success, but we have some hesitations about using such a small touch screen (with such small icons) for our ds (8 years old, c.d., non-verbal autism). Fine-motor tasks frustrate him pretty easily.

I would like to use the iPad, because ds is doing really well with PECS, but I don't want to go out and buy it if it's not working well for other kids with special needs.

I'm not here all that frequently anymore, so if this has been covered in another thread could someone let me know? Thank you!!

We have the iTouch and do find that the fine motor aspect is difficult for our 3.5 year old. He is often touching the screen with his palm while trying to use his index finger to isolate the button. Some of the programs (we use proloque2go) have settings which allow you to increase the size of the button but with the small screen, you then have to scroll to see all the icons and that is another challenge.

I have thought about the iPad, too but don't know if this will solve our problem. I'm interested to hear about anyone else who has tried it!
