fleece dipes?

I am pregnant with my first and am researching cloth diapers. I'm not quite sure what kind of system I'm going to use yet. I'm leaning towards a combo of AI2s, pockets, and prefolds with covers.

One thing I've noticed is that most of the pics of AI1/2s, pockets, and covers I've seen online look kind of stiff and plastic-like. We don't have any stores in my area that carry cloth diapers, so I'm going to have to order them, but I'm concerned about the diapers not feeling soft. Do they feel softer than they look?

I have seen some that look really soft, like the fleece Baby Softwraps and the Bummis Polar Fleece covers. What are the advantages/disadvantages of fleece-covered dipes? I like that they look very snuggly instead of like plastic. I think I read that the Bummis covers have PUL between the fleece layers, but not sure about the Baby Softwraps.

Also, I can't seem to find any reviews on the BSW...anyone use them? They look good to me because they have the flexibility of a snap-in soaker OR using them as a cover for prefolds. But I'm still new at this, so not sure...

I started out using prefolds and thirsties covers, later I bought pockets (AMP) and they are so much nicer! I often just use them as covers lined with a prefold, and I like that the edges that touch my DS are fleece covered and also stretchy, but they do have a PUL outer layer. The thirsties weren't soft at the edges and had no give. I also have 2 night time fully fleece pocket diapers which have a very stay-dry feel for my DS, however the fleece outer tends to absorb the urine smell and transfer it to the bedding/pajamas, which I really don't like!

So, overall my absolute favourite is a pocket diaper with PUL outer (which you can use actually as a pocket or just as a cover). I currently have 10 pockets and a bunch of prefolds (infant size) to line them with, I also have several hemp liners. I would love to get some more pocket diapers so I could actually use them as pockets more often.

I also have some larger prefolds which I bought before he was even born, but I just use them around the house with no cover, I find them to be to bulky to put clothes on over top.

I loved prefolds and covers, especially for newborns. They are super adjustable and it was easy to get the perfect fit. (After the learning curve, of course.) I really like the Thirsties covers over prefolds.

After we got out of the changing-every-hour phase, I loved pocket diapers. I liked being able to adjust how much I stuffed them, and with what, depending on what my baby needed.

I like the softness of fleece covers, but they can be prone to compression wicking. I think I actually have a Swaddlebees fleece cover from my diaper demo days in either small or newborn. If you'd like it, just pm me your address and I'll pop it in the mail to you.

Congrats on your pregnancy and have fun diaper shopping!
