Quick help! What can I substitute for soy sauce in Honey Baked Lentils for tonight's dinner?

My husband is on day 2 of a 2-week elimination diet. I was going to make Honey Baked Lentils tonight but need to make a few substitutions. For one, he's not supposed to have honey so I was going to use agave nectar. I don't know what to use in place of soy sauce though, because it has wheat as an ingredient and he's not allowed wheat. In fact, I can't remember if he was allowed soy either. Can I just use a little extra salt/seasoning? Should I add a little more liquid of some sort?

TIA for any replies

I would sub veggie or chicken broth. They're really good with maple syrup in place of the honey too!

If you have tamari on hand, that would work for the soy sauce too. It's essentially wheat-free soy sauce.

I have veggie broth, perfect! Thank you! He's not allowed maple syrup either. Agave nectar is what his "consultant" recommends because of the low glycemic index.

I don't have tamari but if he ends up sticking with the no-wheat thing, I'll have to get some. Thanks again
