Pizza in the compost bin?

Last week a friend showed up at our house with his kids and pizza for everyone. Yay! We had a great time - kids running around in the backyard, no cooking or dishes for dinner.

At one point, one of the kids dropped his pizza face down in some grass & dirt. I was busy with another kid but when I returned to pick up the pizza and toss it, our friend said he'd thrown it in the trash, and pointed towards the compost bin! I didn't want to embarass him so instead of taking the pizza out of the compost while they were here, I waited.

Later that evening I asked DH to fish the pizza out when he had a chance ... fast forward to today (at least a week later) and it turns out DH never did check on the pizza. He just now went out to get it, and returned saying it was all moldy so he just mixed it in with the rest of the compost.

Are we going to regret that!? Should I try to go out and rectify the situation or just let this pass and assume it will all turn out alright?

Before we got our chickens I used to compost EVERYTHING, even the stuff we're not "supposed" to. It was always great compost so I learned to not sweat bits of cheese or meat or *gasp* eggshells I think your slice of pizza is just fine as long as you have a good hot compost going!

I wouldn't worry about this one time, I don't think it will ruin anything... I've had little pieces of crust end up in our compost before and while I try to avoid it I haven't noticed anything too 'off' when it happens

Same opinion here, things are fine.

Thanks for the responses! Glad to know I don't have to head out there and dig through all that goop or risk losing it entirely!

I'm kind of giggling over our friend thinking that was a trash can. It is a big off-the-ground spinning composter. He must have thought we had some kind of weird fancy trash can!

We just had house guests a few weeks back and I kept finding all kinds of "trash" (not much was actual garbage, I'm always amazed what people throw into the garbage instead of reuse, compost, recycle or burnables!) in our kitchen cloth step can! Our actual garbage can is a teeny step can right next to the BIG kitchen cloth one Guess we're a little backwards
