After reading mercola's article on A1 VS. A2 milk differences... I feel like all my efforts were for nothing... even if my sources were grassfed they were still A1 breed cows. Now I am trying to figure out where I can buy A2 sources of dairy on Hawaii... they don't have raw milk here so am I out of luck? Thanks in advance.

do they have cow shares? are there farmers there operating illigally?

I haven't done much research, but I find I do fine with A1. I haven't noticed a difference. I prefer A2, mostly to try to bring it back. It's so rare in the US, and I wouldn't want it to die out.

I just read that article today too. I wouldn't say that your efforts were all for nothing. I'm sure there are still benefits to the A1 breed of raw milk.

I have a question for those people in California, is Organic Pastures an A2 breed? I couldn't find that info on their web site.Claravale Dairy has Jersey cows so they are A2. Those are the only 2 raw milk dairies in CA.

Organic Pastures has a mix of Holsteins, Guernsey and a few others I believe. I read a post from Mark McAfee in regards to an article about the A1 A2 gene situation, from last year. He was wanting to figure out how to get his cows tested, yet the company offering the testing went out of business at the time. I emailed OP a couple of weeks ago, wanting to find out if they have since gone forward with any testing, as I had run across a website for a company that does testing and thought they might be aware of it. I haven't heard back from them yet.
A few other people have brought up the issue on their facebook page, as well as myself, but I've seen no response yet.

I buy OP and with milk sensitivities ourselves we do well on it, yet every so often, especially with the container we just went through, we get very mucousy and moody. Not always though. I'm really thinking we're getting a mixed variety of milk.

Since all this info about the A1 A2 stuff is more or less new, and having seen their initial concern as to the genetics of their cows, I'm hoping at some point soon they'll be figuring their situation out and hopefully if they have A1 cows, they will make the change to only have A2 breeds.

I like Clarevale milk, but they aren't exclusively pasture fed, which makes me wonder if the nutritional value is different. Organic Pastures is a great company, and they'd be fools not to hop on this, because I see this info spreading like wildfire through the raw milk drinking community.

It's certainly a tough situation... I don't know about Hawaii, but I'm having my own issues. I have my own dairy cow, a Jersey(supposedly an A2 breed) and I react to her milk. My mother's Jersey, on the other hand, has milk that I can drink scores of and be just fine. That's the thing... The A1 and A2 genetics aren't even a sure bet in a breed. I think Guernseys are %98 A2, Jerseys fall somewhere around %50 A2, and Holsteins are almost exclusively A1. Then there are all the other breeds to think about, and what happens when you cross them? It's crazy. Goats are a sure bet, being exclusively A2... Universal milk, I guess. I want goats. I suggest that if you react strongly to A1 milk(and I am sure that everyone needs to determine that on their own, trial and error and whatnot) that you find someone with goats. I think that is the only way to be absolutely sure.
