in need of some advice/direction/support

Ok-where to start?!

I have been reading so many websites and forums and now my head is spinning, so if I please forgive my jumbled intro...I am a breastfeeding mom of a 4.5 month old baby. He had normal poop's for the first few weeks after his birth and since than off and on green diarrhea, mucousy, intermittent blood specks of blood in his poop. After being told it was a virus for the couple months by his pediatrician and that it just needed to work itself out, I decided to listen to my gut instincts and investigate it further. I know it is food intolerance related as the more I have read and playing around with my diet seems to improve them. I've been top 8 free for well over a month (maybe even longer), plus corn. I had gradually started taking things out of my diet but as soon as I stopped eating big proteins (beef, chicken, legumes) I did see less mucous and blood. I went ahead and took him to a pediatric allergist and he was skin pricked. Everything came back negative except he is allergic to walnuts. I started the TED consisting of turkey, sweet potatoes, regular potatoes, squash and zucchini last week. It wasn't until I cut out the turkey that his stools showed improvement. They seemed more normal by Saturday, with curdles and no mucous. I was estatic to be able to try and eat other things. I indulged Saturday night on rice and kimchee. Sunday morning his stools are back to diarrhea. Now I am back to living off of squash and potatoes. The probiotic should arrive tomorrow so I will be starting those for him and I. Any other suggestions?

Oh, I don't know if this relevant or not but I do have interstitial cystitis (bladder), though it subsided while pregnant, which leads me to think it may be hormone related. I do have MTHFR and was taking 1 mg of folic acid (prescription) a day. Should I still be taking it? The doctor said it only is really a big deal when pregnant. I have other symptoms of possible leaky gut, maybe yeast problems. As well as numerous medicinal and environmental allergies with asthma.

Where do I start? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Kathy for corresponding with me last week! I appreciate it!

What are you doing for fats/proteins?
How about some lesser done proteins like lamb, duck, goat? (my DS couldn't do chicken or turkey, but he can now tolerate turkey every 4 days after 18 months without it; DD2 reacted to beef and still can't have, after almost 2 years).
What's in kimchee?

At the moment I am not eating any proteins, not good I know. I was hoping that it would help to bring him to baseline sooner. I have tried lamb as well as different beans and it seems to increase the green diarreha. The only fats that I am eating is the canola oil that I fry the squash, potatoes in.

Right now he is having runny stools. Not as frequent as Sunday. They are yellow though. I am hoping that they are on their way to getting better. But I did see a spot (maybe a ball point pen size) of blood in his diaper this morning.

The list on ingredients in the Kimchee is nappa cabbage, garlic, green onion, hot pepper, sugar, salt, paprika, and ginger. I did eat a lot of it during my pregnancy.

No advice here, but hugs from a mom in the trenches with you. My LO is 10 weeks, and we're having the same problem, haven't found the triggers yet.
Let's stay with it til we figure this out!

Thank you! I am hanging by a thread here with no protein options at the moment. I feel so inadequate and like such a failure for my babies tummy troubles.

I hope you find some answers for your little one soon, too.

I think that you should not stay on this diet for more than a couple of weeks because it depletes your body of vitamins/minerals etc. And you need a lot of fat and more protein. You could try quinoa for a grain and protein, maybe sunflower/pumpkin seeds, but I am surprised to hear that you/baby can not tolerate meat. Is the meat free range? Have you tried deer? I am also thinking that if it is a problem with protein, maybe someone could recommend a good enzyme (this is what we are working with right now, we started with Trienza).

Hope you find some balance soon!

Start with homeopathy! Then you won't have to limit your diet while bf'ing and you'll cure your cystitis and much more as well! Your baby is picking up on your inner disturbance! Bf'ing mother and child are so close in resonance, practically one single being. He's in your field and his body is trying hard to balance itself too! Try seeing a homeopath!

Yikes - how scary for you. I have some thoughts for you. I would definitely get on some digestion support for yourself. Enzymes would be great - Enzymedica are a wonderful brand. Maybe do the beet test and then trial HCL and add supporting nutrients.

What is the prescription folic acid? Is it 5-MTHF? If not, I would get 5-MTHF (in Thorne Research products and a few other brands) and use that instead, but most definitely keep up with the folate. It is very important for you and your LO.

You may want to add something to help with absorbing toxins from die-off if you add enzymes or HCL. Sodium ascorbate helps with detox and Pascalite clay can, too. I have used both and they helped us a lot.

There are mommas here who have had interstitial cystitis from food chemicals (possible myself included - I had a diagnosis but stopped having symptoms shortly afterwards). JaneS may have more info for you on that.

You need need need nutrients. I would NOT stay on an elimination diet for very long at all, especially with no protein. Stay gluten, dairy, soy, egg, corn free. If possible try to keep meat organic and pastured. Have you tried lamb?
