St John's Newfoundland AP Mamas!

Hello!!

Is there an AP Mama's group kicking around for St John's? We are moving back East and I'd love to meet like minded women.

We've yet to have any of our babies, but in due time they will come. We arrive in August so hopefully by then I will be baking one

I am a birth & postpartum doula, Reiki Practitioner and training to be a Breastfeeding Educator. We live a simple little vegan green life. I love to knit, but more so in the company of other knitters

We aren't familiar with the city yet, so feel free to share your ideas of the best family friendly places to live (doesn't need to be close to schools).

I'm so excited to be coming 'home' to the East Coast. This feels like the best most worn sweater, just the right fit.

The LLL is probably the best place for meeting natural-living minded mamas - that's where I've met lots of extended breastfeeding, babywearing, SAHParenting, alternative schooling families.

You'll probably find Georgetown or downtown St. John's the best places in town to live - easier to walk whereever you need in a city that can be unfriendly to those who don't have cars.

St. John's living

St. John's doesn't have a whole lot of different/alternative thinking people when it comes to pregnancy, birth, parenting etc. However some exist, you just have to search a little harder. Living downtown is your best bet, and check out the Sprout restaurant on Duckworth Street. It's the only Vegggie restaurant in town. The Doula collective here will probably a good place for you too. There is a woman in the collective who is the ONLY certified Lamaze instructor in the (or very soon will be certified).

thanks!

I'm getting some great contacts in regards to birthing professionals, even though I will not be in the collective because I choose not to be DONA certified.

It is all coming together in a prof sense, I hope to make some friends though.

Update - after living on the Island I found MANY AP friendly families, friends and worked with the only Midwife in town as her apprentice. It was a beautiful experience, and many many families are gentle living but don't call it so.

I knew cloth diapering mamas, sling wearing mamas, wrap makers, my best bud was an AP caregiver, amazing. The people are amazing!

ME! I live in St John's! The comment about the city being unfriendly to people without a car is so incredibly true. My fiance and I are in our early 20's and are the first of our friends to have a child, we have a grand total of one friend with a kid around the age of our own, who we rarely see. We also live in a part of town now where it is just slightly too far to walk anywhere with the baby in tow, and the bus route runs only until 6pm on weekdays... it's sort of miserable to be honest. I'd LOVE to meet some like minded mom friends!
