Could vomit/eleveated temp. be related to teething?

Our DD (8.5 months) has five teeth now, one of which just came through this past weekend and she's working on another now. Yesterday, her babysitter sent her home early because she woke up from her nap and vomited, then vomited again one or two more times after she had a 3 oz bottle. She had been a little fussy/clingy yesterday morning, but not too bad. When I got her home yesterday afternoon, she seemed pretty much fine, playful and chatty. She didn't have a fever, just a temperature around 99-100.4 degrees before bed. I gave her tylenol once before bed, and her temperature was normal the rest of the night. She had a bit of a hard time sleeping last night, but it wasn't one of her worst nights.

Then, this morning she seemed pretty much fine. Playing, chatty, etc. She had a temperature between 99-100 degrees though. I still took her to the babysitter because she said it isn't considered a fever unless it's 101 degrees (in which case, I would definitely keep her home).

So, could all this be related to teething? She's never vomited before because of teething, and I'm not sure if she's had a slightly elevated temperature with teething either. But maybe she's working on more than one tooth right now?

She could be sick too, but no signs of cold, no diahrrea, and no more vomiting so far. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

A low grade fever, upset stomach, diarrhea, and diaper rashes are common teething symptoms and are caused by bacteria in the mouth especially when the teeth are actually cutting the gums. So yes, it's normal. However, vomiting and a low grade fever can be indicative of some other mild infection. I wouldn't worry unless the vomiting and temperature persist or if other symptoms arise like fatigue or increased fussiness. In the meantime tylenol, hydration, and foods gentle on the stomach are your best weapons.

I would associate the vommiting with a GI bug, which could have been CAUSED by the teething because of the open sores and bacteria in the mouth. However, dismissing vommiting simply because of teething, IMO, is not a good idea. Vommiting and/or diarrhea usually cause me to go into anti dehydration mode, no matter how or what caused it.

FWIW, my son had the worst case of diarreah you could imagine around his 1st birthday for almost a month. He acted fine the entire time. Ate good, played good, was always happy and in a good mood. He would throw up/poop all over himself, and promptly try to go back to playing, and get mad at me when i scooped him up to clean him. Just sayin. They can be sick, and not SEEM sick except for the obvious symptoms.

My almost 5 month old DD is also displaying these symptoms but has been in the throes of her first tooth. She also has a ton of food sensitivities though and I am on a restricted diet. I also something the last couple of days (spicey food) which might be behind the puke. She's also been waking every 2 hours the last 3 nights, mostly to nurse.

What is anti-dehydration mode? She is currently EBF. Just nurse all the time?

In your case, yes. Your LO is very young. My guy was a year, and was not BFing anymore. I was trying to switch him over from formula to regular milk, however, he pretty much lived on pedialyte for that month, since that was the only thing that DIDNT go right through him.

Well, she only threw up 2-3 times yesterday afternoon, and no signs of illness since then (besides slightly elevated temp). It could be a stomach bug, teething, or yet another ear infection...

It's so hard with these babies, if only they could talk! These symptoms could lead to any number of illnesses... at least she isn't super cranky or have a high fever. I'm going to call the babysitter in about an hour to see how DD is doing.

Sorry, this made me chuckle. I thought the same thing when my first was that little. he is now 2.5. About a month ago, DCP called me because he had a fever of 102.8. THinking it might be an ear infection, I got him an appt, and picked him up. When asked, he said his tummy hurt. "Does your ear hurt?" "no!!" "Does it hurt here? (pointing to mouth)" "NO!!!!" Turned out to be strep throat (Confirmed with throat culture). so verbal communication is a crap shoot sometimes too.

For my DD she always got cold like symptoms while teething. Crying, fussing, runny nose. She was a puker, so that was "normal" for her. Oh and diarrhea, she got that with teething.

DS on the other hand never pukes, he did once when he was first born, but the other night he did multiple times, I think it is from the drool. It effects their whole system.
