Getting my dog spayed

Hi,

My sweet 6 month old lab is getting spayed on Friday. She'll be overnight on Friday. Five days later, on Weds, I have a meeting for work that will mean I am out of the house, 7:00am til 3pm. I usually work from home--has anyone had experience with dogs getting fixed and leaving them alone? The vet said she would be ok, but should I try to reschedule the meeting and stay home with her? She is crate trained and I have a dog walker who can take her out mid-day.

Five days later she should be fine. Just keep an eye on her while you are home to see if she's trying to lick/chew her stitches and if so, put an elizabethan collar on her before you leave.

Does the vet have someone at the clinic overnight that will watch her after the surgery? Some vets do not, and if that's the case I'd recommend bringing her home after she's out of anesthesia, that's what we did.

this exactly

don't let the dog stay overnight unless they are a 24 hour operation. it's better to have her home where you can watch her vs having her locked in a crate by herself at the vets for the night.

and, good luck the day of!

Dropped her off this morning--they will have someone there tonight to watch her. The house is so quiet and still without a pooch in it. We've only had her since January, funny how fast you get used to that energy in your home.
