Retraining my 4-week-old to latch

Hi,

I'm looking for any information or guidance about retraining a baby's latch. Here's our situation:
I'm breastfeeding my month-old daughter but I have had a lot of pain from the beginning. Now I am only using the left side to feed her; I'm pumping the right breast because it is so painful. The left side has gotten somewhat better after help from lactation consultants, but it is painful as well.
The baby has a shallow latch; after nursing there is always a white compression stripe across my nipple.
When we first started nursing, she would not open her mouth wide enough to get a decent latch. Now, she's opening wide while seeking the breast but as soon as she latches, clenches her jaw again. We saw a cranio-sacral therapist who I think helped her get her mouth open wider; but she's used to nursing with a clenched jaw now and I need to retrain her. I plan to continue with the CST; but the DO who was doing it said that she will still need to "relearn" how to latch even after she gains the ability to open her jaw comfortably.

Are there any resources or books out there that specifically address how to retrain a baby's latch. I know what a good latch is; I need help CHANGING a latch that my baby has already learned.

Can you look at this website www.biologicalnurturing.com it shows the 'biological nurturing' position which is highly recommended for cases like this one, its run by a LLL Leader and IBCLC - I'm at the otherside of the water from you but I also highly recommend LLL - find a group in your area and see if you can go to a meeting, there will be mothers there with lots of helpful experiences and information and the LLL can maybe help you find someone you need or she herself may be able to get to the bottom of the latch with you.
