DH and I always thought if we had another girl we'd name her Charlotte Grace. But now that I know I'm having a girl that name doesn't totally fit for me for some reason. Not to mention that on many of the baby name sites, Charlotte is turning out to be the #1 girls name so far for 2010. Even though we chose the name literally years ago, we just don't want her being one of 6 Charlotte's in her class... lol.

We came up with another name that I feel as if this child was meant to have - Devon Grace - but I'm curious as to what people will think of it, meaning, is it too masculine.

My DD's name is Georgia Mae and I think either of the two names go well with it...

So here are my questions:

1. Which name do you prefer?

2. Is Devon - spelled in that way - too masculine or does it work?

Thanks!

Devon has slipped into being a girl name. You are doing okay there.

And yes, I stay away from any name that in the top 150 or better cause you'll run into a million of them. A good friend of ours has boys named Aidan and Ian. If she had a quarter from everyone whose told her "those are so popular!" she'd have a lot of cash.

Well, I'll state straight off that I avoid names that hit the popularity charts at all costs.
So I DEFINITELY prefer Devon!
I think it's a wonderful name that a little girl could certainly grow into.

The only Devons i know are as a last name... so I dont associate it with a specific gender myself.

I know a male Devon and a female Devin. I've always loved the name

Even though it's popular, I prefer the name Charlotte.

Even if it is popular, I really like Charlotte!

I have a friend who just name her baby girl Scarlett. I much prefer that to Charlotte. I'm not crazy about the Char sound (and that typically gets used as a nickname).

As for Devin/Devon, I like it. It works fine as a girls name IMO while still staying neutral enough for boys to share the name.

Sorry, I can only see Devon/Devin as a boy's name.

I don't like Devon (especially for a girl).

Charlotte (Charlie) was on our list.

I have only heard Devon as a boys' name. It is trendy. Charlotte may be popular, but it's a classic.

I tend to go for classic over trendy as well, so I'd vote for Charlotte. Devon has been falling in popularity for boys over the past five years; both Devin and Devyn have been in the top 1000 for girls in the recent past, but have fallen off completely as of 2008. Based on that, Devon/Devin/Devyn may end up sounding dated. That may not matter to you, of course -- if you love Devon, I say go for it!

I think of beautiful Devonshire in England. And cream!

Usually, I'm someone who prefers Charlotte-like names, but I think Devon is lovely.
...and this is exactly how Charlotte finds itself at the top of the popularity lists . Some people really dont' mind popular names or else there probably wouldn't be popularity lists, right? So whatever you love, you love, popular or not.

the first Devon I ever met was a girl, so I don't think it's too masculine.
Charlotte is a beautiful name! Devon isn't really my style, as I think the only Devon I've known was male and I also think of Devonshire cream (), but I don't think it's a bad name.

Grace is actually more popular than Charlotte is so maybe skip that part!

I like Charlotte Devon or Devon Charlotte

My son's mn is Deven (sanskrit so a slightly different pronounciation) but its a name that sounds good for boy or girl I think.

You have to remember that being in the top does not necessarily mean she'll be one of six in her class. It actually only represents like 1% of the children being born. I like Charlotte myself. I don't care for Devon, but I don't think it's a male only name. The only Devon I've known was a woman.

The only Devon I've known is a woman, but she spells it Devan.

I like it over Charlotte, but that's just my view.

Popular names are tricky. My son has one that has been in the top 10 for the past 5 years or so. We liked the name so much and that was the sole reason we went with it, but it being popular was not a positive aspect for us. I wish it wasn't so common. I hear it everywhere. My daughter has classmates with the same name. There's a school full of them. Ugh.

I think Devon works fine for a girl. Good luck with your decision.

I like Charlotte in itself, but with a sister named Georgia, I think it might start to sound like you were throwing darts at a map. (I hope you know I'm trying to not giggle as I write that, I'm not being snarky!!!)

Since Devon is what you are feeling is the right name for your baby, I'd go with it!
