Blue food dye allergy in toddlers?

Against my better judgment, I let my 2.5 year old have a blue iced slushie around noon. Within 10 minutes, he had a very unusual tantrum (he's a very docile child!), acting out all the way to the car. Where do I begin research? What do I do?

I have heard that artificial food dye can cause behavior issues. I haven't seen it personally since my son has never had anything artificial.

My sister was allergic to Red dye #40 as a child and also FD&C Yellow #5.
