Making cheese.. equipment?

I'd really like to try my hand at making hard cheese from the raw milk we are getting locally..farmhouse cheddar comes to mind....we can only tolerate raw milk products.. all the stuff in the stores makes us ill..

So.. a cheese press.... I'm thinking I need one.. the ones I see are either stainless.. and the cost is... quite a bit.. or PVC.. which makes me hugely uncomfortable..I don't want PVC touching my food...maybe I'm an alarmist.. but that just seems to be asking for trouble..

So, do you have a cheese press you like? Did you buy or make it? WHere? How? How much??

Affordability is key...a couple hundred dollars is out of the question for this.. even $50 is a bit much... but I can save up if something is really going to give me my money's worth
