what's the "worst" thing you've fed your LO?

i was wondering this as i was making the choice between giving our 7mo dd a frozen-brand potato wedge or hotdog. in my defense she was also having curry beans but she needed something else on her tray, that's what we were eating, and she had eaten a ton of fruit already during the day.

so what was the worst thing your babe has eaten?
i'll start:
a taste of caramel doughnut filling. but it was chanukah (doughnuts are a traditional chanukah treat) and i was in a festive mood. but she hadn;t even started solids yet.

My father gave my son, when he was 6months old, a chocolate bar (coffee crisp) to gnaw on. I was not happy.

At Easter I gave our 7mo DD a taste of cherry pie and vanilla icecream. She loved it. I am sure we have given her tastes of other junk too.

Other than that, my wife bought those puff things and those organic baby rice cake things. We have given her those (because they were already bought). I think they are junk and basically empty calories without any nutritional value at all. A waste of money and just teaching her to eat for the sake of eating.

sounds like something my father would do, but I have made it VERY clear about what ds can and cannot eat. Luckily he won't even touch solids yet... But when he does my father has already said he wants to give ds his first taste of chocolate...

My aunt filled DD's basket with tons of "healthy" baby treats which inculded these Gerber Graduates zesty tomato chees puffs. When I saw them I knew I wouldn't be giving them to her, but DH decided to and of course she LOVED them. I figured it was a special day, oh well.

I don't really let things like that get to me. I feel that if I provide my kids with a healthy diet overall and give them the tools to make healthy decisions for themselves, then a little what my FIL calls "contraband" isn't that big of a deal.

That being said, over Christmas DS managed to get his hands on his Grandpa's bourbon when our backs were turned (towards the family poker game. Ah hem.) We properly freaked out, called poison control, and then once the panic was over couldn't help but be amazed that he hadn't not only taken a sip but THREE before we managed to wrestle the glass away from him. I mean, yuck.

Also, I tend to hesitate to allow my kids to have even a taste of anything that comes from McDonald's, Taco Bell, etc.. I feel that's part of setting a healthy example, though. If I wouldn't like my kids to eat it then DH and I don't either.

Oh! We never had this problem with DS, but DD will do ANYTHING to get her hands on the dogs or cat's food bowls, and I'm sorry to say that she succeeds far more than we'd like.

Our Costco had fresh flown-in Krispy Kremes from Maui (can't get them here on O'ahu.) I bought a box ($14 a dozen LOL) and my husband gave her a small bite of one. She loved it LOL. Otherwise she eats fine, she's my 3rd kid, I'm not sweating it LOL.

DS2 had a bite of a chocolate chip cookie yesterday.... home-made, with mostly organic ingredients, but still!

Until 13 mos, I could honestly say that DS hadn't eaten a thing that I wasn't in full approval of, except maybe the odd handful of sand or cat food. I was very proud of my great little eater who will gladly pick steamed broccoli over pasta in cheese sauce, even home made, any day. Then I got pregnant with #2 and have barely been able to set foot in the kitchen for four months. We've had horrible frozen dinners every single night in that time!!! (If DH were inclined to cook, it would be hot dogs every night so he's no help). So you think your head is in the sand, I am mortified! Luckily, DS will still choose vedgies over anything else so I can always balance out the cheap microwaved lasagna with a bowl of peas or whatever. Still I'll be glad when this phase is over and we can get back to our healthy ways. In the meantime, I don't have the energy to worry about it.

This! Oh my gosh, I have to keep her occupied while the dog eats in another room, and we've had to move the cat food downstairs!

Otherwise I don't worry too much about her having a little taste of something, as a family we eat healthy and I feel like we are setting a good example of healthy eating for her.

Recently he has had a few tastes of my organic yogurt that has some sugar in it, and he had a small finger lick of organic homemade whipped cream that had a small amount of sugar in it. Pretty tame, compared to the lady I saw at the mall giving her infant sips of coke from a straw and food court mac n cheese.

DS is super interested in food - and he is only 5 months! - my mother, bless her, has given him jelly (there is fruit in that, right?), we have given him a taste of fro-yo . . .he loved it! He seems to like anything he can suck off your finger (read: liquid or creamy). Trying to delay solids a bit more but he does seem so into what we are eating.

not a bad thing, really, but he seems to like to munch on lemon slices!

the worst thing -- a mcdonalds chicken nugget..
I'm currently 25 weeks pregnant and had a huge craving for the nasty batter and grease covered "chicken".. and she came up with her mouth open and started bouncing up and down banging on my leg because she wanted a bite. I gave in.. I'm a sucker for my little guppy begging with her mouth open for food. She liked it, and I felt horrid that I subjected her to my moment of weakness for "chicken" nuggets...

Ok, now that I've read what you have all posted I feel really bad! But, I can say that both my girls eat a very healthy diet that is very fruit and veggie heavy. But, DD2 will generally get a taste of what the rest of us have. So, cookies, 100% juice watered down, popsicles (those are 100% juice), ice cream, but not too much as she's not real sure about the cold, sugar-free kool-aid that has been way watered down. I buy the little packets to add to a bottle of water then use those to make a quart. I drink them, not my kids BTW. Last night for dessert both she and DD1 had a petit four and part of a fruit tart. I was disappointed in the tart though, the filling was just whipped cream rather than a pastry cream. Oh well, I didn't make them so I shouldn't complain.

My feeling about what they eat is that a little won't hurt. Everything in moderation. We don't eat pre-packaged stuff or processed food. Most of the time, if I don't make it we don't eat it. But, I love to bake and my DH has a sweet tooth. So we generally have cookies here. I have a tendency to make the types that I don't like so that I don't eat them. My girls would rather have an apple than the cookie, so I guess I'm doing something right!

a non-fastfood french fry. he sucked on it and thought it was great. also, cat food. but I didn't offer that, he helped himself

9 month old DD had Dairy Queen ice cream last week I had a craving and packed up the kids and drove there in the middle of rush hour traffic to satisfy it (i think AF was playing a role in that poor decision!). I couldn't help myself! I gave her probably 5 little spoonfuls of the vanilla. Of course this is the same baby who eats EVERYTHING I eat so I am sure she has had "worse"!!!
