Ear pulling?

DD has started pulling her ear when she's tired. Is this something that other babies do or do you think she could be having some sort of ear ache? She only tugs on her right ear, but has no symptoms that I can see. Do you think it is something we should get checked out or should we wait and see if some symptoms begin to appear?

My kid has always tugged on his ears. It's just a habit, and he does it more when he's tired (kind of like thumb sucking, hair twirling, etc...). I'd wait for symptoms.

My DD did this when she was about 6 weeks old but doesn't do it anymore. I remember reading that many babies do this often when they're tired.

My oldest used to do this all the time when he was tired or stressed as a baby. He outgrew it with early toddlerhood. He's eight now and no ear pulling! I remember I often wondered too if it was hurting. But if she is otherwise well i wouldn't worry too much.

Just another

My little ones does this.

His brother puts his fingers on his teeth.

They all have something interesting they do when they are ready for bed.

My ds does that when he's nursing. It's pretty funny cause he'll aim for his ear and grab around on his head until he finds it. I thought he had an ear infection at first too.

I would take her to have her ears check. My kids are known for ear infections with no symptoms. My hoh child always did it though with our with out ear infections, some baby's just do it. Others have more going on.

DD used to do this when she was tired, too.

ds pulls his ear when tired/nursing - but if it is a new thing for her, I'd take her in. some kids do it when they're tired, some do it when they're teething and some do it when they have an ear infection.

we're actually going to the dr tomorrow to rule out ear infection - ds has been crying a LOT and waking up every 45 minutes. the last time he had an ear ache he did the same thing, which really doesn't seem like much. I'd rather go to the dr and rule it out or be able to take appropriate action if there is something going on.

dd does this all the time - sometimes bc of tired, sometimes teething. dr told us jaw/mouth nerves run together by the ear and babies cant tell the difference bt teething pain and ear.

Thanks everyone, she is scheduled for an appointment Monday, and I'm sure the dr. will check it out anyway.
