Does anyone know if there is such a nutrient (or if there is a nutrient deficiency) or something/anything to strengthen the throat to decrease the severity of sore throats in the future? Seems like when I get a sore throat it is a whole lot worse than other people I know (severe coughing and it lasts a good 2 weeks minimum). I now ask because DS got his very first sore throat and it is just like when I get it. So I can sure empathize with what he is going through. I don't want him to face a lifetime of having to suffer with these if there is something I can do to help him. TIA from both of us!

Slippery elm is useful for sore thraots
Apple Cider Vinegar has always worked for me. Garggling with it and swallowing it every couple of hours.
Colliodal silver spray - directly in throat.
as for preventing them, sounds like you need to boost your overall immune system. Vit C, Vit D, probiotics, eat well and get plenty of rest and fresh air.

I am like you - I always get way worse sore throats than everyone else. One thing that works for me is to suck on zinc lozenges. I also find relief from drinking hot ginger tea (made by boiling ginger root for approx 10 mins) with some added honey. As well when I start to feel one coming on I take elderberry (either in tincture form or I also like Immunity Take Care by New Chapter). And, like the pp said, keeping your immune system in good shape by eating well, getting enough rest, and making sure you're not deficient in any vits or mins (esp vit D) is crucial.
