Tetnus w/whooping cough vax included?

So my mother had to get a tetnus shot and let me know it included the whooping cough vax so I wouldn't worry. Um, yeah, had to tell her DS hasn't had that. LOL.

Can you no longer just get a tetnus shot? I want to be prepared in case we end up needing one for some reason.

Yes, one can get a tetanus only shot (TT).

If your child is unvaxed, and had a wound where tetanus was a possibility, you should ask for the TIG, as a TT or DT or DTaP would do nothing to protect against the current risk of tetanus. The others are given to protect the person for future wounds.

Apparently, the tetanus only vaccine is rare and it is unlikely to be immediately available.

It still exists (for those over 7yrs) but most places aren't stocking it any more is my understanding. The manufacturers are really pushing the combo Tdap now. Your mom didn't just get the pertussis vax, but diphtheria too fwiw.
