41 weeks and getting nervous - Page 2

Just reaffirming the previous posters. Your cervix being 1cm and still "hard" for a vaginal exam isn't any sort of indication of whether you'll go into labor on your own. Your baby will come out when it is ready and not until then.

Yup, the day before I went into labour I finally gave in and let my MW check me, and I was barely a fingertip dilated, almost no effacement. That was at 42 +6 weeks. I went into labour at 43 weeks and had DD at 43+1.

She was perfectly healthy - I just cook babies longer than average. I hate that somehow that has become almost a crime in today's society! Anybody else get cross about the dichotomy of 'allowing' moms to birth/homebirth from 37 weeks (or sometimes even earlier) but not 'allowing' them after 41 or 42 weeks. If 40 weeks is the mean then for a proper bell-curve you've got to have the same amount of time on both sides!

Holy buckets of smoke. What a good point.

Hugs mama! I hate how cervical checks make women doubt their own bodies...btdt. FWIW, I never had a baby before 42 weeks until my third and even he was born at 41 +2 days ha ha. Some women just cook them well! I know it's hard not to lose faith. I wish you peace with whatever you decide.

Hey Mama2010!

I have the feeling you had the baby yesterday... Did you? I'm waiting here holding my breath! (ok, not really holding my breath... but I'd love to know!!!)

I did not get my homebirth. In fact I got the complete opposite of what I wanted because DH and I decided we didn't feel comfortable going past 42 weeks. We tried a home induction and later castor oil and not even one contraction. So I ended up having a hospital induction which led to a c-section for failure to progress. I was/am devastated. It was the scariest thing I have ever been through and I am mad at myself for going to the hospital. But honestly I felt like I had no other option. Even my HB midwife wasn't totally comfortable going past 42 weeks. But my son is here and healthy and gorgeous. I am so in love with him and I know one day I will accept what happened and move on. Right now because it is so fresh it is hard to talk about. Thank you for your support.

Mama, don't think for a second anything was your fault with the birth.
It really does sound like they all (md and midwives)gave you no other option.

You deserve to be pampered right now. Whatever is beautiful and will make you smile. And lots of cuddles with your baby and dh~!!

It's so tough to make those decisions, and I'm sure you made the best decision for your situation. Try not to second-guess yourself if you can. Be gentle with yourself and enjoy your babymoon - make sure you take advantage of all offers of help!

Sending hugs and healing vibes your way, mama. Congratulations on your beautiful baby boy!

Your baby is here and healthy. My first ended the same way and although it is hard to deal with at times, nothing compares to the joy of having him even if it wasn't how I planned. Congrats momma.

That being said I appreciate this particular post because I am planning an HBAC and am currently 41 weeks + 6 and WAS starting to get nervous until I read how far some of you went. I feel like I have a second wind! Thank you all :-)
