Ergo Question

I have a three months old baby and got several carrier options - loaned or inherited. So far I had been using a Mai Tai carrier and loved it but have to give it back now. I have a baby björn which seems to fit best at this point but apparently isn't a healthy choice. I have an used ergo carrier without the infant insert. I just looked up the insert and saw that it got very bad reviews. I am wondering if I should purchase one even though she might be outgrow it quickly but to have some head support. Has anyone tried to use a blanket as a support? How would I do that and what kind of blanket would be good?

So far I liked the Mai Tai best but that would be the only one I would have to purchase which seems odd since I have all the other carriers (also have the Moby and Moby D - hand me downs/loaned)

Thanks so much!

I've never had or used the infant insert (didn't use my ergo until 3ish months or so) but I know some people use a rolled up baby blanket instead of an insert...something to try if you can figure out how to position it. I used the ergo with my son at about three months and he was big enough by then form me to place him in it frog legged. So instead of putting his feet out of the holes I frog legged them up, but he was tummy-to-tummy with me. But he was over 10 lbs at birth, so by 3 months this was possible...it might not work with a much smaller child.

(typing with a three yr old and a 7 mo old on my lap...my daughter wants to see this guy....)(

I used the Ergo with my baby from just a few days old (she was 10 lbs at birth) and used a blanket instead of the insert. I just used a baby blanket and positioned it to where we were both comfortable and she was safe. I would say just play around with it, but make sure your baby is very safe in there. I only used the blanket for a few months before she was able to be in the Ergo with her legs through the holes....so I would say the insert is not worth the money.

Hi Mawood (from January DDC)!

Marissa is the same age, and I have an Ergo that I got with my second child. I started wearing Marissa in the front carry at just a few weeks old. I put a receiving blanket folded in half along the front part after buckling it around my waist, then put her in with her legs folded up. Now that she is bigger and older at 3 months and about 11ish lb, I am putting her in without the blanket (also it is getting warmer here where I live and we would both be too hot that way now). I have taken her and my dog for several walks this way and she usually goes right to sleep. Hope that helps!

Thanks you guys! I will try the blanket! Tried it without a blanket yesterday and she almost seemed to be fine with her head. BUT: I put her in froglike and her feet kept slipping under the waist belt even though I had buckled it tightly. Did I do it too high up on the waist???

Another January baby here - DS is almost 4 months and we just recently started going without the insert - he has exellent head control and I do half froggy for his legs, with 1 sticking out. He seems to like it and I find the Ergo super comfortable on my back
