Seborrheic dermatitis--want to fix not treat

Hi all,

I've searched through the archives here and found some threads on seborrheic dermatitis, but I have more questions

My dh has had dandruff and redness on his face (butterfly pattern, he jokes it's lupus) for at least 10 years. His father had the exact same thing. His father also had heart disease and a quintuple bypass at age 50--my dh has had high cholesterol for at least 6 years (can't remember exact number, I think it was 220?). DH's SD has flared this week and is now also in his groin causing him much discomort and distress

Questions: are heart disease and seborrheic dermatitis related? I was thinking along the lines of inflammation and over-active immune response.

Is SD diet related?

All the standard medical sites say to slather some cream on. I hate treating symptoms!! I feel like there must be a cause of this, the best I can find is about it being an over active immune response to a fungus, malessizia. So, I guess using something to fight back that fungus might help his symptoms, but considering it's on everyone it seems like helping his body not attack it would be a long term solution.

Sites also mention stress and sleep--his job is intensely stressful and involves significant sleep deprivation.

Any thoughts on all this? He's really miserable right now--he's put up with it off and on for years, but this is the worst it's ever been. We've all been sick and sleep deprived the past few weeks (even months), what can we do?????

Help!!!

sorry, naking, so not much detail, but
my dh as has SD...on his head, face, and in his ears. two years ago he found out he has multiple food allergies (wheat, barley, dairy, chicken eggs) and when he cut out the offending food his SD cleared up. now we can always tell when he's accidenlty eaten something bad because his SD flares up big time (well, among other things like major digestive issues).

thanks!
geez--where to start...i don't think i can handle ALL of those foods at once... we're dealing with a toddler and sd. i was going to cut out dairy b/c of enlarged tonsils...i guess i'll see how that goes with sd and go from there.

I agree figure out what in the diet may be causing/adding to this- I have also found that taking vitamin B2(riboflavin) in mega dose can clear it up- won't stay cleared up if there is something causing the problem to begin with but it will roll back the red and scales-- dh takes this in addition to a general B100 supplement
