Enough colostrum to tandem nurse a toddler and a newborn?

I'm wondering if anyone has experience with or can link me to info on whether or not I'll have enough colostrum for both my newborn and my toddler.

The only information I have been able to find so far is on Kellymom, which has a .PDF of a page from Adventures in Tandem Nursing; it only generally suggests letting the newborn have priority in the early days because colostrum is in limited supply.

I'd like to know more about what that means so I can make sure I'm meeting everyone's needs.

Thanks for any info/anecdotes you can throw my way.

There may be value in letting your newborn nurse first before your toddler, but you don't need to worry about running out of colostrum. Your breasts make more milk as milk is removed (and colostrum is milk! It is simply more concentrated than "mature milk"). You don't suddenly run out and have to wait until your "milk comes in". Most women who are tandem nursing find that their mature milk "comes in" faster because the toddler is helping to drive their milk production.

I just did this earlier this week!

One of the reasons I decided to continue to nurse my 2yr old during pregnancy (of the many reasons) is that my milk tends to come in later then is prudent--- but with the other nursling it came in 3 ays earlier and with oodles of supply. (just had my third baby)

I had a decent amount of colostrum before birth (even pumped an ounce or two) and A LOT the first two day. I felt that my 10'12" newborn was getting plenty and the 2 1/2 yr old was getting some too. The toddler nurses a bit in the morning most days and sometimes for nap. I imagine if you had a more frequent nurser you might want to think more about making sure the nb gets the most milk but when it was time for the nd's turn I would just do the other side.

I even felt a litte engorged with colostrum and pumped 3oz because the baby slept a little long! The nursing toddler was helpful with the later milk coming in engorgement also..... I find it very helpful to have a nursing toddler this time.....and NO sibling baby jealously!

It's really supply and demand, so the more the breasts are stimulated the more you'll have - you just make more, from experience our dd nursed whilst I had colostrum and her poos even turned that lovely yellow colour and even smelled like newborn baby poos - lol, I'm sure you'll be fine, if you're wondering also about who and when we just nursed the two together I latched ds on first and dd then could nurse if she wanted to or not, I had an oversupply and strong ejection so having the toddler on at the same time really helped with that sort of thing in the beginning weeks.
