We're only 11 weeks along, but I know the name game will take a loooong time for us!

Here is a list of names that we're considering at some level or another. I'd looove input on these. Like them? Hate them? Can't pronounce them? Have experience with them?

Other ideas in a basically biblical theme welcome! The first three are variants of Elizabeth, meaning "God's promise." Eliana means, "My God has answered." Miriam means "Longed for child." Naomi is "Sweet, pleasant." Eden is "Paradise." Ruth means "companion, friend."

I LOVE Eliana. Love it. I really like Naomi, and Eden.

If you want biblical... my name is Rachel, and I've always loved it. Classic, feminine. It's not uncommon, but I was never one of 100 Rachels.

Other favorite biblical names: Delilah, Hannah (means "grace"), Ahava (means "love" in Hebrew)

It's wonderful to see you here . Well, I love your name choices~ my dc are all biblical/hebrew names with profound meaning for us, with a nature inspired middle name. My 10/07 babe is Naomi, so of course I'm partial to that .
Miriam was on our short list this time around but we found out we are having a boy and he seems to have claimed the name Ezekiel "Zeke" .

Our name taste is so similar~ my favorite biblical story is of Ruth and Naomi and Ruth was also on the short list this time around. I have found lately that Eden seems to be rising in popularity around here~ not sure if that makes a difference to you or not.

I don't know if you care about popularity, but Eliana (and all its alternative spellings) is huge right now. I personally know 4 Elianas, all a year old or less. Just something to think about!

Will you pronounce Leisel with a 'z' sound or an 's' sound? I have heard it both ways, though technically I think it is supposed to be the 'z' sound. I prefer the 's' sound, but maybe that's just me. I prefer 'Elsa' 'Leisel' and 'Eden' off your list, though I have some trouble with Eden when I think of the biblical story how Adam and Eve were kicked out and everything. It's not a happy story for me.

The Elsa one reminds me too much of Elsa, a celebrity cow, back in my hometown.

The other two have "lies" in them. I couldn't do that to a child.

I know a baby named Miriam and she is called Miri for short, which I think is sweet and pixie-like.

I love all the names on your list, really. The only one that doesn't *pop* for me is Ruth, and I don't know why.

philomom, the original German spelling is Liesl, but the alternate spelling I listed is more phonetic for Americans, and avoids the "lie/lies" issue: Leisel.

jennica, I'm not too firm on the s/z sound for Liesl/Leisel. I generally pronounce it with a 'z' as it's origin dictates, though.

I AM really bummed that Eliana is becoming more popular. I discovered it more than 5 years ago (6?) when pg with my 2nd. It was NOT popular then, but neither did I have girls!

The only one I'd scrap is Liesel, because it looks like a misspelling of Liesl, which you already have. Thanks to the Sound of Music, folks are familiar enough with Liesl that you don't have to change it.

Of your list, my vote goes to Miriam. I love the combination of old-fashioned, Hebrew, and not trendy. Plus, it's such a pretty name.

Our Naomi is called "Nomi" for a nn and it totally fits her.

I Miriam. The meaning is gorgeous, the sounds dignified and beautiful, and the nicknames for a little girl are so sweet.

I like all of them, my favorite is Naomi, DS would of been one had he been a girl. Eden and Ruth are my least favorite. Miriam is all kinds of awesome, and I adore Leisel.

I used to work with a Mimi and I've always liked the name.
