infant PT/OT

Hi there,
My daughter was born at 35wks. She's now 5mo. (4mo. adjusted). She's started getting PT/OT 3 times a week. When she started she wasn't able to push herself up during tummy time - now she can do that. But, she still doesn't roll over. We've been doing her exercises religiously.

Did your infant have PT/OT? Did it help?

Thanks,
Beth

Hi there,

My son (29.6wkr) is now 15mo/12.5mo. He has been in almost weekly PT since he came home from his 53day NICU stay. And I believe it has made a HUGE difference for him. He has specific issues (toriticollis that has resolved, asymmetry between left and right side of his body) and that is why he gets PT. If there weren't specific things he needed to work on, we wouldn't be doing the PT. Hope this helps.

If it's any comfort, my dd rolled over maybe 4 times (probably less) before she could sit on her own and she's on the early end of things for gross motor stuff. So not rolling over isn't necessarily a sign of any problems.

The push-ups are a huge thing for spine strength and it is fantastic that your dd is doing them! Go her!!

My daughter was 29.5 weeks and was in the NICU for 3 months. We started PT then and she continued it upon "graduation" at home and later in-office. As soon as she was learning to roll over on her own, they discharged her. She recently had about 5 months of PT again due to heel-cord tightness and overall balance and coordination issues. PT is wonderful if you have a great therapist!

My daughter was born at 39 weeks. spent 2 weeks in the NICU and has been in PT and OT ever since. She is now 13 months old and just learned to sit up by herself last week. She still is unable to push herself up on her tummy. Cannot crawl. She doesn't stand as she refuses to bare any weight on her arms or legs. However, she did have extreme torticollis and plagiocephally that has resolved with therapy. Things are going very slowly but going none the less. Good luck to you!

River got pt/ot for gross motor delays starting at 9 months cause he couldn't sit up and couldn't even get up on his hands and knees so he wasn't close to crawling yet. By 1 year he had caught up completely, we have now switched his OT to feeding therapy since he will not take liquid from anywhere but my breast.
