Trying to distract myself - let's talk cloth diapers! - Page 3

I'm scavenging diaperswappers.com and the Trading Post...our person faves have been a few BumGenius pockets for convenience, and mostly gdiaper covers with prefolds layed-in instead of the flushable inserts for daily use at home. I have a couple of Bummis Super Brites and Thirsties that I used with prefolds, but I used the gdiapers more often. I think I'll give prefolds with covers another chance, though...I think I got stuck on one fold or wrong-sized prefolds or something last time around. They're sure great for those early days of a gazillion diapers per day!!! I make my own wipes out of flannel...just buy up the remnants at Joann and Walmart and cut them into wipe-sized pieces and zig-zag the edges. They fit in a wipe warmer great!

For those of you that kint you own wool covers, what type (brands, weights, etc.) of yarn do you recomend, and where do you get it?
Also, I've used wool covers like Nikkis, and one other brand, and love them, except for the fact that when poopy gets on them, they need to be hand washed right away. How do you deal with that, and how do the knitted covers do with blowouts?
Thanks... I'm hoping to knit some up, but would like a bit of advice from experienced knitted wool useres.

US! Last time I lucked into a bunch of *free* good condition NB kissaluvs and some nice plastic velcro covers. I think what I'll do is continue to use those, add some more fitted dipes and I have a friend who makes recycled wool pants...

I need some sort of shorts for this summer for DS2, I am ready to think about training pants for him too (18 mos soon and interested) I don't have enough large plastic covers.

I really like the fitteds and they're easiest for daddy and grandma.

I have wool longies for ds but I only use them over a cover if he hasn't poo that day and I can't imagine putting a newborn in a prefold with wool because it seems inevitable that you'd have to wash it.

I love my longies because I DON'T have to wash them all the time.

I'd love to use wool covers but I want to know about the poo too!

I just got three Thirsties Duo wraps on DS! My first diaper purchase for Littlest!

DS#1 last wore a sposie when he was 7 months old... and that was just because on vacation we mis-read the humidity and our dipes didn't dry fast enough, so we used a couple of my nephews dipes.

DS#2 has never worn a disposable dipe. He PT just after 3 and is still in dipes at night.

I have a newborn stash that has been making the rounds... I'll have to put dibs in for them back again! I will need new fitteds. After 6.5 years and 2 boys, pretty much all of ours are shot.

I didn't really buy any dipes for DS#2 so most of my diaper purchasing was in 2003... before bamboo so I'll have to try them out.

We didn't use a TON of wool when dd was super tiny, but when we did, there wasn't much to worry about with poo getting on it. We didn't use prefolds then though, just fitteds, but I found that you don't absolutely have to wash it right away, just set it aside until you get a chance to.

Splath, I was just looking at your blog, and your knitting is amazing! You are really talented! Do you ever do customs?

(Cute baby, too!)

I use cloth! I love motherease one-size, we bought used ones about 18 months ago. I guess I have 16 of them, about 8 snug to fit, which I do NOT love, but someone gave me (not good for skinny tall babies), and then I have 14 small kissaluvs to help with the newborn stage. I'll probably buy some new ME, since we'll have two in diapers at the same time, which hasn't happened in a long time

I am SO MAD! I just found out Thirsties is discontinuing their regular sized covers!

Why, why, why?! They are absolutely the ONLY cover I love! And they're so popular! Why are they doing this to me!

I went on Amazon and went ahead and bought 5 of them in medium so I'll have them for when ds's wear out and for the next babe.

They are stressing me out!

Thanks Mama-love

Seriously Funny Face?! Where did you hear that? We don't use a lot of PUL, but I have a few thirsties covers and rather like them (although I like Imse Vimse better, but they're more $$).

Really? So are they just continuing the Duo Wraps?

Wonder if this means their outlet store is going to have a huge sale?? I have gotten some AWESOME deals when they went from gen1 to gen2.

I actually like the duos better, but then again, I hate velcro and love the addition of snaps.

I saw it on a cloth diapering store site. I just emailed them to confirm that. I'll be so happy if I am wrong!

I got my first two CD the other day!! A really nice MDC member sent them to me for free in response to something I posted in the CD forum. They are SO darn cute! I got a swaddlebees fleece cover and a happy heinys PUL cover. I've been scouring the MDC market, diaperswappers, and ebay ever since. I've already made my first diaperswappers purchase - 4 NB Bummis covers (2 with snaps, 2 without) and am really excited!

I'm planning to do NB prefolds and covers at first, but I am unsure what to do after that... do I go straight into OS? Get some smalls, then OS? Or skip the OS and just get some of each size as baby grows? I've also been told Mediums will fit most babes after the NB stage. I am worried about OS being bulky. I'm a rather small person (5'4 and 112) and am assuming I'm going to have a skinny babe that will be swallowed by OS dipes, but I don't really know.

I also checked into the Thirstie's sitch. They are from Colorado and my friend is a retailer and friends with the owner. She said the single sizes are here to stay for the foreseeable future. They *may* phase some of the colors since they are not selling as well as before they duos were introduced, but she still has a steady stream of clientele who love them.

So there you go!
