hcg levels & questions

Okay you preggo's that have been through this - help me make sense of this.

My LMP was March 9 and my cycle was due April 2. I believe the baby was conceived on March 12th, maybe the 17th.

My breasts were tender on March 30 & 31 so I tested and I got my first HPT+ on April 1. It was a very faint line but it was agreed it was a line and I tested everyday for 5 days and the line did get darker.

I had very typical pregnancy symptoms until April 13~ or so. I was sick that day with a mild fever and stayed in bed and slept the entire day - very unusual for me. It was around that date I stopped having most pregnancy symptoms. The only thing was my breasts/nipples were slightly tender - I have since lost that symptom as well.

So I went to the doctor to have my hcg levels checked and here are the results:

4/23 - 3692
4/26 - 5335
4/29 - 8794

Doctor says they are good numbers but not doubling like she'd like to see. I also have low progesterone of 7 - she'd like to see it over 10.

They want me to go for a sonogram which I likely will... ALL of this being out of pocket as I do not have maternity coverage.

So, thoughts? Doc thinks maybe it is a blighted ovum but also said it could be a totally normal pregnancy too. I never had my levels check with my first 2 pregnancies but I had symptoms so I was never in doubt however, my last birth was 7 years ago AND this baby has a different father.

Ive seen numbers double slower than normal with healthy women...

my own personal experience was a missed miscarriage (similar to a blighted ovum) but... as I said... Ive seen it happen with women who were perfectly fine!

I think, even though it will be somewhat expensive... I think I would rather know (myself) if something were wrong rather than carry it who-knows-how-long before losing a pregnancy that was, in all reality, already lost...

I would also like the peace of mind if everything is fine so I do not wake up every morning expecting to start bleeding until I hear a heartbeat/feel kicks.

But really, its going to be up to you, if you think you can handle that, go right ahead and wait. It really wont harm you if its a blighted ovum to wait until your pregnancy ends on its own... and if its a healthy pregnancy you will know around 12/13 weeks when you hear a heartbeat on doppler!

#1 hcg can take up to 72 hours to double so no worries there.
For HCG levels <1,200mIU/ml, the expected doubling time is 48-72 hours.
For HCG levels 1,200-6,000mIU/ml, the expected doubling time is 72-96 hours.
For HCG levels >6,000mIU/ml, the expected doubling time is >96 hours.

#2 I would get on some progesterone support ASAP. Like you my progesterone with ds was low only 8.9 I got on the progesterone when the bw came back and had no issues.

I'm off on my dates, my LMP was March 9 so that puts me 7w3d. I had my sonogram and there is a baby and it is measuring 6w1d with a heartbeat of 84.

That's all they could tell me. I did call my doctor's answering service in hopes of someone calling me in a script for progesterone.

My friend works in an OB office and she said it doesn't sound viable.

I guess there is medical hope ?? but I don't feel hopeful. I feel very, very sad.

if it is 6 weeks and has any heartbeat (even at 84) i would say it sure does sound viable!

its TOTALLY possible that you ovulated later than what most women would with the LMP you have... making that spot on for age...

When the heart first starts beating it can be really low and then over a day or two spike up high (with my first US with DD with heartbeat it was 90... two weeks later it was 163... with this I only had one and it was 180 but I was 9 weeks along)

under 90 may be reason for concern but with how very early it is... I would not say its not a viable pregnancy.
