Poll: How many cycles on Clomid (with I.U.I.) before BFP?

I'm about to start Clomid next week and then we are going to do the I.U.I. procedure. I'm wondering how many cycles it took you to get a BFP?

Our fertility Doc said that she's noticed that most women have it work on the 2nd try.

I'm a bit confused as to why she says that there's only a 15% chance to concieve thru I.U.I. (afterall, they are putting the washed (good) sperm up into the uterus, thus closer to the fallopian tubes, making their journey shorter) and therefore it should be a higher percentage of success....at least in MY opinion!

I just don't get how TTC without help from fertility meds/treatments is supposidly 20% chance of success each cycle you try.

Does this make sense to anyone else?

Anyway....back to the poll. Please advise as to how long it took you to get pregnant while taking Clomid pills (and preferably doing InterUterine Insemination) so I can ease my mind as to the stats.

*Side note: I'm hoping this poll will help me to not freak/stress about this first cycle because maybe....just maybe there are a few of you out there that DID indeed get a BFP on the first TRY.

Thanks Mamas! I look forward to hearing from you soon!

With my daughter I got pregnant on the first round of clomid/IUI. This time it took 3 rounds.
My doc also quoted a 15% chance of success each cycle. For a couple with average fertility it's about 20% per month trying naturally. After a year probably 80-90% will get pregnant. For those with infertility, pregnancy rates are much, much lower, so 15% is a big improvement in my opinion. The reason that the IUI success rate is lower is because you are talking about rates for a group of people who already have fertility issues, for a variety of reasons.

Moved from I'm Pregnant to Trying to Conceive.

First round for me too for my baby girl. 100mg clomid (we had done 50mg, but no IUI the cycle before). I had been trying 2 years at that point.

For my brother and his wife, their daughter was conceived on their 3rd round of Clomid/IUI. Their second dd was also conceived through IUI, I think it was the fourth try? She had one chemical pregnancy after one of the IUI's to concieve dd2.

We're possibly starting our second IUI cycle today (if the ultrasound goes well). I agree with a PP that the 15% for the IUI is because when a couple does IUI they usually are dealing with fertility difficulties to start with. I'm hoping for our sake that 2nd try IS a charm, but I'll cross my fingers for your sake that you only need one!

ps - you may want to post about this in the infertility forum, too. Good luck!

I just wanted to update this post by saying that I was waiting for my period to statr this week as we were supposed to start Clomid and then do I.U.I. next week as earlier stated, however........we didn't end up needing to because.....I found out I'm FINALLY pregnant on Tuesday, naturally, the cycle before our first round of fertility assistance! When I called the nurse with the news she said "You know....you wouldn't believe just how many couples that happens to....that they get pregnant right before starting Clomid and doing I.U.I. or I.V.F." she wasn't sure why it happens like that alot of times, but she said it happens all the time!

So....as of today...I am 5 weeks along. Whoo hoo! There is no greater joy than getting a at home and then going to the Dr. for a blood pregnancy test and having it confirmed by them!

So....I am now moving over to the Pregnancy forums and wish anyone else reading this post who is planning to try fertility meds and procedures a Good Luck in your journey to parenthood and hope to see you in the other section as well....and soon!

Mine worked on my second iui, though i had done clomid without iui a handful of times and nothing. I think the iui helps because the loomed can really mess us your cm and that's the down side, the iui overcomes that, and yeah I think folks are right on when they explain the low percents
