Laws and droppping out of school

I wanted to put this in the Learning at Home and Beyond forum...but I think it's better suited for this forum.

My daughter want's to drop out of high school, she has for a long time. She plans on going to college and then eventually and university. But I'm not here to discuss that.

We live in California, and she is 17. I've been trying to look up the laws on the internet but it's difficult. Does she only need my permission, do we need to sign papers, can anyone on here tell me about the process?

does she want to drop out, as in not finish HS, or does she want to graduate by HSing? those are two different scenarios.

This website suggests that you will be subject to truancy laws until she reaches 18.

Can you homeschool/unschool her and get around this requirement?

Does she have enough info to take the GED and graduate early? If she goes this route, you should talk to the principal.

I think that pretending to homeschool her may be your only option in CA unless she is close to being 18. Here is a link I found about GED testing requirements for CA.

She's taken the California High School Proficiency Exam (CHSPE), which in California is the legal equivalent of a high school diploma...all she needs pass now is the math section, and she'll have a certificate of proficiency.

After she passes that she'll sign up for classes at the community college. But she may take a short break from school.

Really, this shouldn't be so complicated. We're trying to avoid confrontation right now. With the school that is.

Hmm...you could try cross-posting on your tribe board. Perhaps you could consult with an attorney.
