Does she have sensitivities?

I really hope I can hop into this forum for a couple weeks, determine that DD has no issues, then leave again!

DD is 9 months, and a pretty happy, healthy little girl. Only issues are cradle cap, frequent congestion/runny nose, and night-waking. Most nights she wakes every 2-3 hours, with a little cry, she nurses, goes back to sleep. Some nights though, once a week or fortnight, she wakes hourly, screaming. She'll still nurse back to sleep, but it takes a while longer, and she's more restless. She has no teeth yet. We have been BLW since six months, not leaving gaps between new foods. She loves food. She seemed to have bad nights after she ate dairy and oranges.

I decided to do an elimination diet for both of us to see if it helped. I'm on day 7, and plan to eliminate dairy, corn, soy, eggs, wheat, for 3 weeks. I am kind of following the Whole Life Nutrition diet, although we ate nuts and bananas this week. We'll cut them out for the next two weeks, since we both love bananas. DD has had more gas this week, maybe from me eating too much asparagus?

I'm overwhelmed - she doesn't have particularly troublesome symptoms (I know most of you have it a lot worse), but I keep thinking "what if it's a combination of two things? Or three?" I'll never be able to figure it out. I don't even know if she HAS allergies/sensitivities.

What do you wise mamas think?

Are you keeping a food journal- that can be really helpful! Are you also eliminating oranges?

I think it sounds like she's reacting - to something you eat frequently, and then more sharply to something that either a) you eat infrequently, or b) she consumes directly infrequently.

Keeping a food journal is definitely a good first step, that might clue you in to the foods causing the increased reactions (the really bad nights).

Are you taking out just wheat, or all gluten?

Is sleep or the stuffy nose improving? After 7 days, both should be if you've removed all the triggers.

Also, the whole life nutrition list has a lot of foods high in salicylates (a food chemical, high in fruits and berries in particular). And my DS, his two biggest salicylates symptoms were stuffy nose and poor sleep. Just another possibility to consider if eliminating the top allergens isn't making progress.

I haven't kept a food journal so far, but I'm going to start today. Her nose has cleared up a bit, and she had a good night last night. But, she hasn't eaten much the last few days, which is unlike her. Maybe she's bored of avocados, grapes, pears, chicken, bananas and rice!

We haven't been eating citrus, berries, or gluten.

So, if I do another week eating only:

Quinoa, beets, rice, lettuce, cabbage, herbs, mango, golden delicious apples, garlic, ginger, onion, salt, pepper, sunflower seeds, pine nuts, lentils, maple syrup, carrots, wild salmon, chicken, lamb turkey, herbamare, sunflower oil

Does this sound like a good list?

TIA

Seems like a good experiment - I'd say a week should see improvements if you have all the reactive foods out.

Any food can cause a reaction, though, so keep the food journal .

looks like a good list- short enough to hopefully have the triggers out, but it looks balanced and varied enough. Good luck! I hope things improve quickly!
