girls and bangs--love em, hate em?

My dd's hair is always a mess. She won't let me pull it back with a clip, she barely lets me comb it. Sometimes I can pull some of it back with a rubber band, to keep it out of her eyes. I'm getting sick of the battles, and I'm thinking about a short bob with bangs.

Seems like everyone I know is against bangs, would never allow bangs, etc. etc. What is so bad about bangs? They have to be cut more often? They're a pain to grow out? Will I regret this? What's the deal?

My ds's hair is so much easier, sigh.

i don't mind bangs. They do require upkeep but if you can make it part of your routine, its not a big deal.

I'm a hairstylist and there is nothing wrong with bangs. My DD inherited her dad's hairline which means as her hair grows it goes over her face. She has the exact cut you are talking about doing, she hates clips, pony tails or pig tails "hurt". Bangs work wonderfully for her. Her hair honestly looks terrible if it grows out. It would be great if she could have long hair, but we're not really a long hair family-all of us get *puffy* hair not long hair.

Maintaining it is the key, I cut DD's hair about once a month or so. Her hair grows way fast though.

Short bob with short bangs here. It is tedious with the monthly haircuts, but trying to keep clips or bands in her hair is even worse. Takes 'pixie' bangs longer to grow out, or else it'd be every couple of weeks!

I have my DD's hair cut in a pseudo-bob with bangs. It's basically how her hair grew and I've just had it trimmed to keep that way.
Her bangs are long enough (to the bottom of her eyebrows) that if she lets me pull it up most of them can go back into high pigtails. I trim them up myself every couple weeks.

I actually just cut bangs on both of my girls for the first time. My 3yo was freaking out when her hair was in her face, especially as she was waking up, so we trimmed them a little. It was so cute I cut DD1's hair too. She has very thick hair that parts naturally on the side, and it was constantly falling in her face. I cut her bangs and it was such a big improvement!

We're actually growing our 2yos hair out. She sported the Dora the Explorer look for awhile. Cutting her bangs got very tedious and she hates getting her hair cut. She told me that she wants hair "like mommy" (though mine is falling out postpartum *sniff sniff*)!

My now-4-year-old has had a short bob with bangs ever since we first cut her hair around age 2 1/2. I LOVE it, it was always getting tangled and this style really cuts down on that! You do have to keep up with trimming the bangs, but it's not a big deal. I can easily do it myself, then I go in every few months to have a professional straighten them out!

We do bangs here. A stylist once told me that bangs on little ones are a good way to avoid self haircuts. I left my daughters 'long' enough to be able to pull back on the rare occasion she allows me to. She's not overly interested in having anyone touch, caress, put in a pony, etc her hair. She gets quite mad at me for even thinking about it.

my dd has pixie type bangs -- dh cut them real short -- shorter than i would have done, but oh well, it won't take them long to grow out a little. the rest of her hair is quite long, like down to the middle of her back (even longer when it it wet, since it is kinda of curly when it's dry). she likes me to put clips and ponytails in, but then 5 minutes later will pull them right out. so usually the long part of her hair is down. she is ok with me brushing it, usually.

anyway, but the bangs we don't have to maintain much since they are so short it takes a while for them to grow down to where they are in her eyes again. i think we first cut them right after her 1st birthday, then we have done it maybe two or three more times since then? she is 2.5 now. we...ummm...don't fuss much about getting them even

My DD is 26 months and has never had a hair cut. I just cant bring myself to cut her hair. I put it in a pony tail or use clips. She doesnt mind. I love her hair. Its sandy colored and unruly.

Ladies, do any of you feel comfortable showing me pics of your girls with bangs? My DD2 doesn't seem to have a natural part in her hair and I can't get it to stay pulled back with barretts or an elastic at all! (DD1 never had this problem).

I can't seem to find pics of cute short/banged toddler hair and I am hesitant to cut bangs. Show me how cute your little girls are!!

My DD sort of has bangs. It's a case of how her hair grew out and I've been trimming it up to keep her hair out of her eyes. She's going to get her first actual haircut next time I go in for a cut.

Oh, also, I personally don't like bangs on me, and I thought I didn't like them on little girls. I may have to re-think that now that DD will most likely have bangs.

I cut my 2.5 yo DD's bangs. I just took the chunk of hair that was always falling in her face and chopped it off above her eyebrows. It works great, bugs her less, and is free!

personally I am not a fan of the Dora cut. My step daughters have it and one of them still did her own hair cutting. So at least in my case that blows the personal hair cutting theory out of the water. It is up to you but I love little girls with longish hair...no matter how unruly it can get. My DD is 3 and she wipes her own hair out of her face a lot...but it doesn't seem to bother her much. It is just part of being her.

I just got 18 month old DD's hair cut for the first time and we went with bangs. I also had her ends trimmed a bit so right now its pretty short over-all but I love it.

I guess I'm the voice of dissension here.

Personally, I'm not a fan of bangs because I had them growing up and they were always in my eyes. It's much easier to tuck the longer hair behind an ear.

My older daughter had very fine thin hair that looked terrible long--it would be messy within seconds.

The cutest cut we ever had for her was kind of a wedge. Here is a picture from the side--and this is uncombed--still looks pretty good :-) And from the front.

I refuse to cut bangs on my girls. I had them as a child and my mom always cut them crooked. It's a family joke, because she would always cut them right before school picture day and in every school picture they are obviously crooked. I even had them all through high school. I grew them out at the end of my senior year and I've never considered cutting them since. I don't know what it is about bangs that bug me so much. I understand how much easier it could be, but honestly, I think they don't look that cute. Personal opinion, of course. I love long hair on little girls.

Sorry, crashing your forum as I saw this in new posts.

They're a huge and major pain to grow out. Dd (5) has been growing hers out for a year, and they're finally almost there. But it's been a painful year because she doesn't like them held back with clips or barettes. I feel like her hair is always in her eyes. They're finally long enough to fit back in a high-ish ponytail - which works for everything except wearing her bike helmet and her baseball hat at tee-ball.

But as a toddler, since she didn't like her hair combed (still doesn't but I can now reason with her), she had bangs and a really cute bob.
